Being a groove rider of the A34 most days, I have noticed the influx of Vosa Vehicles that are now frequenting Sutton Scotney Services at least once or twice a week either side and sometime’s both.
Now i’m all for staying the right side of the law and getting my job done, and I know this is one of the main trunk routes to the Midlands and the North, but is it me or is this overkill?
On a trip out of Southampton Docks to the top of the A34 (J9 M40) you have the chance of being pulled at least 3 times.
Rownhams Services (M27)
Sutton Scotney (A34)
Abingdon Weighbridge (A34/A415 Junction)
And then their’s Cherwell Valley Services - this being the least sightings of the Vosa gangs.
Like I said I stay the right side of the law, but in more than one time in the last 8 weeks I have seen more than one of these fore-mentioned being frequented by Vosa, so in reality I could get stopped twice in one trip up the A34.
And thats without contending with the Hampshire Constab’s. Ford Galaxey - Commercial Vehicle Police - this being written on the side of his vehicle. This you see usually lurking at the bottom end of the A34 around Winchester - Whitchurch turnings.
Sutton Scotney Service seems to be the most used locations since xmas.
What do you think? is this overkill? Would you like to see them pulling car’s & Vans over? or have you?
In all I am just so surprised from the end of last year, of just seeing there stop checks now and again, but now seeing them every week at least twice on the A34/M27 .
If by their actions the culprits who
act as if they are above the law are brought to
justice then by all means , stop ,and check me as much as you wish , I have nothing to hide, and if these enforcement
officers are doing their job correctly then, they know who is a bad one and also the experieneced officer can identifiey those who may be also breaking the law, Try looking at it this way after they have stopped you let us say10times and had not found any bad points you will end up in their list of Good Firms, which means you will be checked not so often as those who are BAD firms,
No I think it’s a good idea them having all these I just cannot get over the fact that 8 or 9 weeks ago you were lucky to see one check point a week up and down the road but now it’s like overkill. Just wondered what there reasoning was more than anything.
Oh yes the Prat-Nav brigade. Oh the drivers who have it smack bang in the middle of the windscreen!!! DOH!!!

So…how many times have you been stopped on all these sites??
They seem to be the same all over the shop, I’ve seen Doxey on the M6 (j13-14) open several days in succession. They tend to do a reg no check further back up the road nowadays and then target and ■■■■■■ their prey in, rather than standing on the hard shoulder waving all and sundrie in like they used to, so getting pulled severals times is unlikely unless theres been a problem in the past
Can’t see a problem myself, as most of the trucks invited to parkup and stayover as guests at the DOT Truckstops seem to be foreingners
None, I am merely commenting on that in the last 8 weeks or so it seems there is a bigger presence of Vosa in these places, nothing more and nothing less.

Good to see that with drivers like this around the VOSA will not need any toilet roll for the forseeable future…
Looked like the wheel tap tap tappers went eeny meeny miny mo and selected white van man to pull over today at sawtry. There looked to be 5 or 6 on or around the weighbridge, some with bonnets up. Never seen vans on there before…or unless white van man is taking a leaf out of our book and are blinging up there dashboards with cuddly toys/flags and not forgetting sat nav’s

The thing i can’t quite understand Pete, is that they are supposedly targetting ‘foreign’ lorries. Most foreign lorries will have probably come through at least two other EU member states before they get here. Also if they know who the rogues are then why are they not tacking the problem at source if they pose such a great risk to road safety? VOSA’s most recent research says it is better to test vehicles at Operators premises as its more customer friendly etc… Why not enforcement at Operators premises?
As soon as I pass the junction were they are parked with their beacons flashing, they are straight out after me to pull me in.I have been pulled countless times, checked, double checked…no faults, tachos ok but still getting pulled over. I dont mind spot checks but its the amount of time wasted, could be 20 mins one day or 50 mins the next time.
Now,where can i buy a yellow rear number plate…
Everyone seems to think they are being targetted unfairly, white van man, Irish, British drivers. Me, I just blame it on the sun and the weather, when the sun shines they prefer to be out and and about rather than picking their nose in court or an office.
It is the same in Europe, every border or peage will have a gaggle of officialdom in mirror shades and an attitude.
Someone said it is only foreign lorries parked up at the DOT checksite, that normally only happens if they have no UK address and will be taken to court before they are allowed to go any further. A UK company will probably be investigated at their depot with a full fleet check or a tacho check.
White van men in checkpoints■■?, maybe these are the +3.5tonners >2007 with the speed limiters disabled.

Each Member states checks its own transport
in house so to speak, here, what ,
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE; is a team of inspectors made
up of say each of the countrys in the EU, comeing
as a team to visit each country, haveing also a list
of those firms that they wish to visit, the officers
in this team would have to be experienced, speak
at least (1)ONE other language on top of their own,
have some knowledge of european way of working
(this is aimed at the british side,as they are normaly
the worst knowledgeable here,);IF this is possible and
could say do at least 4checks a month in various countrys
then perhaps we would see a bigger change, please
bare in mind,That in germany if you have enough money
you can and do get away with many things from
A right through to Z; and that includes Murder.
I think vosa should be disbanded and the police should get on with fighting crime.
We should be able to buy a truck and make money with it. No rules.
Now that’s a level playing field.
