You see a lot of guys over here lifting the hood and checking all levels while filling up at the pump as well as getting the squeedy on the windscreen to clean it off. I remember my old 11 plate FH and being told by the workshops just use the computer to check my levels
.
The VOSA guy was asked about checking that part of the tyre
which is kissing the ground and he said roll the vehicle forward.
Now - honestly, how many drivers do that ?
I have never seen it done and yet I suppose it could save your life.
But what about checking the inner tyre on a twin set of tyres?
Almost impossible to check ALL of an inner tyre I reckon.
But I do kick the tyres and I have found deflated tyres in the past
because they “do feel different” and a flat middle tyre of a tri-axle
trailer is often impossible to see.

Friend of mine over here failed his test on his pre trip because he forgot to take the chocks away from under the wheels after testing his brakes. He didn’t live that down for a while lol
He didn’t bother to check the brake lights

He did actually - he used a wedge.
Sometimes you see two bits of wood under the driver’s seat, one
long and one short, specially on wagons that have a regular driver.
The big piece is to wedge between the seat and the brake pedal
and the small one is to keep the fuel nozzle open.

A flat middle tyre in a tri-axle trailer with air suspension will be obvious because the airbags presses down each axle equally so a flat will look “squashy”. Spotted one on a mates trailer yesterday (he was really chuffed as he thought he was going to get an early finish).
Even with twin wheeled tri-axle double deck trailers you can spot a flat as the outer tyre tyre will bulge excessively at the bottom even if its the inner tyre that’s flat.

It must depend on the level of deflation because we have had punctures
that have simply been impossible to see. It may also depend on the surface
in the yard.
It doesn’t cost anything to kick a tyre.

I’ve never once checked to see i my suppressors are free from debris
