Vosa stop

Am i correct in thinking that at a roadside check a document should be issued even if checks are clean.

I have once been given a document confiming a roadside check has taken place and no problems reported. The vosa guy was good at his job and made sure that the clean stop was recorded, thus aiding my ocrs.

Last week had clean stop at newport but no doc, was not going to tempt fate by asking for doc.

Point here is that stats are being manipulated if all clean stops are not recorded.

VOSA will sign the tachograph which is in the vehicle at the time of the roadside check. They no longer issue a document to prove you have been stopped but it is all on a computer system now which will show that roadside check up.

it might take a few days for the stop too appear on the system depending on the workload the vosa guy has that day.

I got pulled not long ago and he issued me with nothing, I also explained to him I was the transport manager and asked why we were one away from the red on our ocrs, he said he would have a look into it for me but as he couldn’t see any prohibitions in the last 2 years he thinks it’s down to MOT failures. He said as he happy with the vehicle and load and wasn’t interested in doing a proper inspection I could go, although it won’t count as a good mark on the ocrs score as he won’t log it.

I thought it was a good idea when they issued you with a sticker for the window to show you had been pulled and had a clean bill of health, so if you got a pull within a few weeks with one they just waved you through.

This is my point, they are keen to publish figures along the lines of, for every x trucks stopped x had defect.
These stats are misleading if clean stops are not recorded and it make a mockery of the ocrs system.

Years ago all the tipper boys in my area used get “dodgey” ones made up (B4 computers, scanners, printers etc)by a friendly printer, stick them in the screen away you go!, the ministry(aka VOSA)sus’ed it, end of stickers :frowning:

That’s very true, but i wasn’t about to ask him to do a full inspection to get the good mark… I was happy to be let go with no grief.

I was stopped by Police/Vosa in a check on the A9 last week between Perth and Inverness. No problems found after a quick walk round (trailer was MOTd the previous week though and repainted that recently you could smell the paint  )
All he asked for was mileage to put on his little handheld monitor thingy, was this a recorded check then as he was making notes on the machine.

I didnt realise tipper drivers were so dishonest, I cant remember ever being dishonest when I was a tipper driver, but then I cant remember what I did last week
But with the wide spread use of ANPR, they could still do that, but they choose not to.
Do VOSA use an ANPR system? or are stops totaly “random”?

Depends what other agencies are involved, August this year on the A9 it was a blitz on speeding, plod was working the mobile video at the end of the twin track at Drumochter, come off that onto the sc at more than 40 and vosa were informed, hey presto you got tugged into the big layby past the summit and the tacho was given the once over, any sign of running at more than 50 on the printout and they started to dig deeper with wheel tapping etc.

A couple of weeks ago plod was sitting on the twin track just north or Perth, Vosa were in the 2nd layby, they knew exactly who they wanted to pull long before you got a chance to spot them, two bikes were flipping up and down as far as the next section of twintrack and an unmarked vw was working south of Pitlochry too.

I’ve been parked at M40 Wheatley services during vosa checks and they’ve checked pretty much new top of the range motors either side of me, yet ignored me even though I was clearly loaded and the lorry was old and filthy.
One driver got arsey and asked “why that heap of s… wasn’t being checked?” and the vosa bloke said something like “I bet that heap of s… has passed every mot first time!”

you must ask for a pg35 as they wont voulenteer to give it to you
this is supposed to last 28 days but they can pull you
if change trailers often but if pull same
truck and trailer pg35 will last 28 days

Can they not check your Digi without taking it off you, wireless or something or other.
