Seen yesterday on the A19 north bound side, betweed Crathorne and the Parkway, was a VOSA Galaxy. The unusual thing was that it was parked in a layby with a couple of camera’s at the rear of the vehicle and a VOSA sign next to the camera’s. Does anyone know if these cameras are spy cameras or are they speed camera’s?
Probably the cameras used to record a vehicles presence, basically they film the vehicles going past then, some office clerk will sit and view the film logging the reg numbers into a central computer to check they were taxed and running on a legal O Licence, i’m not sure if they are kitted up to contact Swansea direct.
If any vehicle is found to be untaxed or no O licence registered then they have the photographic evidence required for prosecution.
I passed this galaxy twice this week
did anyone notice the chap standing on a bridge just prior to the camera watchin inside lane, with a walkie talkie??
wonder what he was doing??
I think you can expect to see a few more ministry men calling in to the yard for a chat, and check the office records & tacho cards for registration no [zb]for this date.
Until the novelty wears off.
best let the auto censor do the work instead of stars jon
Anybody seen the american type white van on the hard shoulder of the s/bound A1(M) just past the peterborough X services. It’s fitted with what can only be described as a rotating turret with a tinted window that faces the traffic. Seen this van before several times, but twice within the past two weeks. When I went past on wed (I think) the suns reflection flashed off my winscreen and illuminated the interior of the turret, and I could see a bloke standing behind what looked like a camera on a tripod. What’s he about then
Wheel Nut:
I think thats what was known as a silent check. About time too.
Mmm, yes, definitely. What a pity they can’t automatically check drivers hours at the same time. They’d make a killing if recent threads are anything to go by

I was told by a technician at a tacho centre that the reason new trucks have the tacho fitted above the windscreen slightly off center is so that it provides a clear path that is un-interupted by metal between the tacho head and a car running along side the truck. This means that the new type digital tacho’s (when they eventually arrive) can be interogated by a radio device carried in the car and operated by the passenger (plod or similar).
Big brother is coming.
I’m sure the camera’s are “automatic number plate recognition” one’s but instead of checking tax disc, outstanding convictions for owner etc as in the police system they check for “o” licence & outstanding PG9’s
