On two separate occasions recently I have been advised, that if I park in such and such and industrial estate for the night, that my vehicle will be reported to VOSA. Once by a sign on the ind est and once by a snotty security guard.
There were no double yellows and no ‘No Parking here’ signs in either case with the exception of the ‘park here and we’ll report you’ in the one case.
My query is are VOSA interested? Do they police parking for people? Or are these empty threats?
I would have thought if its a public road and no parking restrictions can’t see the harm

I think its a bit of a minefield if someone wants to make an issue out of it. There maybe conditions attatched to the Operating licence for the truck to consider, there are also local Traffic Orders to consider (which may not even be signed up). In general though trucks are supposed to be parked up in an off road situation. I think i would land this on the bosses toes and tell him the situation there and see if he wants to carry on parking there. Whilst i don’t think VOSA are there to Police parking for people they could report the issue of the vehicle parking on the highway overnight to the TC.
from reading your original post i guess this is an issue encountered during the week whilst away from base, if its not double yellowed or a private estate then vosa wont be interested - for that matter, if it were either of the above then it would be a matter for the police not vosa, if your talking about being weekended and are looking to park up for a couple of days then they may take an interest, this is’nt an exact quote but i do have a letter somewhere saying something like, they appreciate its not always possible to get back to your operating centre on a weekend, and if this happens you should find an authorised lorry park or park at someones premises off the highway. - or something like that, best thing i can do here is dig the letter out lol!!
Thats more the kind of thing I was worried about.
In fact its nowt to do with my gaffer, its a habit of mine to park up on nice quiet industrial estates. Both of these occasions the ind est was close to a major motorway so they are clearly discouraging folk.
Came off the boat at Dover the other night and ran to Folkestone stop 24, which was full to the brim with foreigners . The rent a cop blocked my entry and explained I wouldn’t be stopping here for the night as it was full . I tryed to reason with him , explained I was desperately running low on time . he-stuck to his guns , even when I said I was gonna park at the caravan only area . At this point he said he would fetch vosa to move me on he backed off when I assured him that unless I was breaking some law they wouldn’t be able to move me on . End result threats to call the police and a night in a layby a20 ashford. ? Can vosa move us on by somebody s request when we ain’t really hurting anybody

No, but the police could depending on circumstances, just call there bluff, if you have run out of time and the police want you to move, they have to sanction that move by signing your print out or tacho disc with a reason, but because they can’t state were you go it gives you an option to go we’re ever regardless of the distance so will try to avoid getting involved.
I wudnt worry about it as long as your not parking there and buggering of home on a regular basis when your base is only a few miles away vosa wont even a second look . They will prob look at the location compared to your yard and see that’s not the case . had this whilst parked on an estate in Ipswich a few years ago nowt came of it
