VOSA Matrix

just wondering about this money making scam,
is there any data available to tell us how many instances of an insecure load accident there have been in this country in, say, the last 5 years ■■
and accidents in the workplace where something has fallen from a vehicle. ■■?
compared to the total amount of freight carried on our roads . ■■?
I wouldn’t mind betting that it is a miniscule amount …
and I have to agree with what some people will say, there should be NO ACCIDENTS…
BUT, are VOSA just trying to hype it up out of all proportions in order to fund their own existence. ■■?
and, no, they haven’t interfered with my perambulations up to now…

HSE uses the number of 1200 hurt a year, 5 killed and millions lost due to damage by unsecured load.

Yup, only miniscule, crack on drive… :grimacing:

5 killed

and most would say Its not me or my family so I wouldn’t care … :open_mouth: …when the true answer is any loss of life is too many and therefore prevention is always going to be better

There will be some figures about somewhere I’ll ask about.

No they are trying to stop the mayhem, congestion and carnage occuring on the roads everyday by the idiots who don’t see the damage left behind them.

To put it another way is there many on here who haven’t seen an accident probably caused by any debris including straps off a wagon on their travels ■■

I was opposite a skip wagon when he went round the corner and a full paving stone bounced off the side and clattered across the pavement thank fooook no one was stood there at the time :open_mouth:

Why don’t they just give it up and shoot any driver that loses his load/part of it.

In the face.

Twice.

Just think about it for a minute, every one would be more careful when loading/securing. With the added bonus that it would also encourage better driving practice too.

I jest of course. I think…

I was following an unsheeted one up the M1 towards Tibby services one day when a metal paint drum came flying off the back. I managed to swerve around it and miss it but not sure if the guy behind me did.

Surely that’s a small price to pay to free up millions of miserable man hours for the sensible?

But it doesn’t. It inevitably causes millions of man hours of misery when they close the roads to do the accident investigation and/or clear up. £200,000 per hour cost to the UK economy for a M6 closure for example.

What’s the problem? Secure the load, it’s legal, safer, your in the clear if you get stopped. It’s a no brainer!

everyday thousands of lorries go out with there loads unstrapped and without incident, if people drove to the load they had on there wouldnt be as much carnage tailgating hero over takes and on the limiter going round bends and your asking for trouble, some loads should be strapped but other you can get by fine without them

+1

Lost a floor sander from back of a transit when I first started. Thankfully nobody under it. Won’t ever happen again as I got a proper scare.

Here found this:
transportsfriend.org/road/loads/loading.html

“In the UK every year over 4,000 successful prosecutions for unsafe loads are brought against drivers and operators. Many other incidents involving the loss of loads or part loads go unreported.”

think about it the scum bags could have the dvla take away all our licences if they wanted to
but they would not make a penny from it
