VOSA Loaded trailer hire

I had to go to the VOSA/ DSA Test centre in Featherstone, Wolverhamptonre The mot on my wifes car.
Whilst at the centre I noticed in the far corner to trailers which looked newish, which has written on the side VOSA Loaded trailer hire.

Did I read this correctly?

Any plans to introduce loaded trailers into the cat C LGV Test any time soon.

If not does anyone know that these trailers are for.

It’s for testing the brakes on solo tractor units.
I hope so, anyway, we keep getting charged for
trailer hire at MOT time.

Regards,
NIck.

Yes, that’s right. Interestingly, these trailers have to be MOT’d although they are only there to impose weight on solo units. (Interesting if your’e sad like me!)

Regarding loaded vehicles for DSA test, that’s a different issue altogether and nothing to do with VOSA. But the introduction of loaded vehicles for test is now meant to be scheduled for next year. That’s assuming it’s not postponed - - again.

But dont get too excited; an artic or w+d will have to weigh a princely 15 tonnes. What a lot of nonsense!! Yet another opportunity missed. IMO 30tonnes would be a much more sensible level. But rules is rules.

All the best, Pete

Thank you Nick and Peter.

Posts like these are the very reason I come on here. Informative stuff and I learned two new things from one post.
Thanks

I seem to remember that kent Police driving school used a loaded twin axle flatbed for their ‘HGV Class 1’ training and testing back ib the early 80’s! (the load was a big block of concrete).

Did the old class 1 driving test require to be taken with a loaded trailer? :open_mouth:

No they were still taken empty, but you could drive a loaded truck on L plates and get some miles in before your test
