VOSA - Information Needed, Please

Thanks Macplaxton!

Why any Govt department or agency should use 0870 numbers is beyond me…ruddy disgrace it is!

The number you need for the Highways Agency is 08457 504030, hope this helps  :sunglasses:

You mean 0121 - 335 8300?

Non-geographic numbers, no thanks. I want to use my free minutes!

:open_mouth: Good God. What a marvellous concept !!!

Been using that site for a good few years now Dambuster and it must have saved me a good couple of hundred quid - should be in everyones fav list IMHO!

Well apart from not being able to 0870 things from outside the UK, I think it’s also daylight robbery to get a kickback from listening to menus and poor music. :imp:

Its in my favourirtes list, really good site IMO

Dare I suggest that some basic dangerous goods info might be included for those drivers who don’t hold an ADR licence??

Good idea Dave.
The rules covering Limited Quantities, so that we know what we can or can’t carry under those rules, without an ADR Licence.

You should refrain from purchasing Mercedes Mega waste of spaces instead opting for maybe a Daf 105 ssc or MAN tga xxl or Volvo gobbstopper[/b]

(ok that was on a more personal note)

theres probably more but im depressed enough as it is

Hope that helps :grimacing:

I’m not being sarcastic, but thanks for that. I didn’t know about the non geo number, but hey who am I to comment, I only work for them  :sunglasses:

We thought that an A5 sized (so it easily fits in a bag or cubby hole) booklet with general, driving related information in would be useful.

I can see a benefit in A5 size, but, as most of us do (or should) carry some sort of road atlas, which will be of A4 size (or greater) then I don’t see A4 as being a problem. If you go for A5, just make sure that the downloadable version fits adjacent pages neatly on A4.

Furthermore, the TruckNetUK Help File flowchart on “Help, the VU has swallowed my card” would not fit on A5.

Content: A summary of overhangs that do NOT require notification, and associated requirements. Together with a summary of INDG…whatever. (I’ll look it up later. :stuck_out_tongue: ) The one that requires that persons ‘on site’ have access to toilets, free drinking water, and for a rest facility for pregnant females.

The question of ‘distribution’ has also been raised. When I was involved in training, I had the bright idea of presenting any candidate that had passed an LGV test with a copy of the WT807. :bulb: A form of ‘added value’.

At my local centre I approached the VOSAman with the idea and was given TWO copies, reluctantly. :unamused:

I then phoned VOSA and explained the situation that we were a training establishment and…etc, etc.

When asked how many copies I wanted, I asked for 50. A ‘sharp intake of breath later’ the person then took details of the address. Said copies duly arrived, but there was an obvious reluctance to incurr carriage fees.

Producing informative material is one thing, but when there is then a restricted budget related to the distribution, then the whole idea falls apart.

I think if they don’t take any notice of signs saying Forth bridge closed to high siders, an A5 sheet aint gonna cut much ice either !!

Come on, some people have a hard enough time noticing a bright yellow van with blue lights and sirens!

 was that an intended connection krankee?

… certainly sounds like there has been a connection involved at some point!

Seriously the 1st bit is a good suggestion. I had occasion 1 day a while back to try to find this information, i couldn’t whilst on the road. Even had a mate who was at home at the time looking for it online, he couldn’t find it either.

… and a certain well known & very knowlegeable moderator on here never answers his phone when you need him… though actually that was on another occasion…night outing on a clock change night.
Think i’ll go & make a coffee now.
