Why don’t vosa ever seem the pull coaches in for spot checks■■?
Would you like to delay 50 people going on holiday? 50 irate people when they’ve been stopped whilst you tap nuts.
I’d say maybe they’re better maintained, but having drove them, I think it’s just the above issue tbh
They do spot checks on coaches at Alton Towers regularly
They had 2 coaches pulled at Birch services by Simister Island going westbound Sunday before last.
They have been known to have purges outside schools. I have seen the service history of a coach used on school work and there were instances where, when checked, by VOSA it had a defective interior light and on another occasion a similar defect.
One down side of checking loaded vehicles is that if it is given an immediate prohibition what do you do with the irate passengers, especially if on their way back from a day out boozing?
They do purge outside schools, normally straight after drop off. They tend to get quite a lot of customers due to age of the vehicles!
OOP,S
They do. I’ve seen them stopping hen night limos as well. Never seen them with a service bus tho.

I no what your saying but would you like to be a passenger on a defective coach,I did here not long back a coach was pulled northbound m6 j 14 by vosa full with no tyre on the inner nearside rear it had been flat that long it came off
Like others have said instead of pulling coach loads of passengers for checks VOSA tend to visit coach parks and the like and check them that way. I got checked a couple of times like this in my coach driving days.

Hiya …a vosa man(not named) was on a 10 day tour of scotland, at the end of the trip he was one of
the first people to be dropped off, as he left the coach the driver thought he had been given a tip.
WRONG it was a probition order. the rest of the passangers had to wait until another coach could
come. then all the baggage and passangers had to swap coaches to get home…
John
You sure about that one?

Has an air of ‘pink chalk in an RDC’ about it does that story.
VOSA have Operation Tourist on going through the summer at motorway service areas, theme parks etc. Pulling in coaches for spot checks is not seen as a good image in the public eye. I have been pulled in before though in a coach. You would think passengers would want to know if their coach was defective.

Ive had VOSA check my tacho in Stratford, he just looked at me wanting to see my cards, I had to tell him it was a digi
One driver got the arse with him and he ended up with the full works and surprise surprise he got a prohibition
Just find it a little weird that a VOSA man would:
- Go on a coach tour of the UK (99% are tourists or elderly)
- Carry PG9 paperwork when he’s not at work…
They will pull a coach or bus if it looks bad. They usually wait at football or large venues and give them a right going over.I have had to mind my manners on a few occasions.
I remember when I got a prohibition notice on the coach I was driving in the coach park at Blair Drummond safari park. The company had to send another coach to pick up the passengers as the brakes were deemed unsafe to drive on the road. The bus turned up late and the staff at the park had to stay behind until it turned up and were awfy hacked off!
The coach lay overnight until it was uplifted the next day.
Vosa turned up and just went down the line of coaches checking tachos, etc then left. Telling a coach load of irate passengers that they’re gonna be late back to their hotel was not pleasant…
As above, when I was at school they used to be waiting at the gates about once a term, amazing how many got either prohibitions, or in some cases got stopped from driving and had to be recovered away.
I was VOSA checked more times per year when I drove coaches than now… Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening
