Hello just a few lines to say that winter has arrived here in GERMANY
and that we should be getting the vehicle kitted out for the winter weather,
Also not forgetting that the germans have made certain items law and non-
complieance will mean fines and also delays whilst you buy the items required
Those who carry HAZERDOUS will have even more restrictions placed upon,
When the visibility is LESS than 50meters in FOG;black ice,heavy snow
then it is forbidden to drive in the above conditions,and you have to park up until the weather has improved and the roads are safe to drive,
DO not forget SNOW CHAINS;SHOVEL;, ,also carry some food with you and also the means to warm it up as when the motorways have problems then the traffic jams are long and often last quite a while, last year the germans
emergencey services gave out a lot of hot drinks and meals to all those stuck on the AUTOBAHNS.

Pete, out of interst, who decides when the weather has improved enough to carry on driving? Is it down to the Polizei / BAG or left up to the drivers discretion? can see some drivers getting caught out if its down to an individuals own interpretation. The conditions mentioned could stay for days!!
THEY ALL CLEAR will be given over he radio ,also the police will
give this info out,YOU NEED TO LISTEN to the radio yes this is german but if
you can keep a few key words on a bit of paper then perhaps this will make it
a little bit easyer— GEFAHRGU´T TRANSPORT; FAHR-VERBOT;
PARKEN; THESE MEAN HAZERDOUS–TRANSPORT;
DRIVEING --BAN: PARKING;
GLATT-EIS;;; BLACK-ICE— NEBEL–FOG: SCHNEE–SNOW
GESPERT–BLOCKED; UNFALL–ACCIDENT:: STAU–TRAFFIC JAM
UMLIETUNG—DIVERSION;
A GOOD SITE TO LOOK AT IS THE TRAFFIC SITE WHICH IS on the
useful points site this has good info about the traffic and the roads which can save you lots of time .
It is only the 2 blokes at the front of the queue need to be able to understand German.
Zie rest of you vill be stuck behind zem
Unfortunately I read in the UK that Traffic Agency Patrols are to make the decision whether the roads are too dangerous in bad weather and storms.
It was in Commercial Motor last week but i dont have it to hand
