VOLVO TD120GA,SCANIA DS11,FIAT 8210.22B,etc

Hi all,

If we could get brand new trucks like VOLVO F12,SCANIA LK111,FIAT 190,etc and put in operation in actual roads, fuel,
what mileage should we expect from these engines…
In your opinion, trucks from 70’s and 80’s was more prone to engine or gearbox, final drive failures…

Hi Edzio, of course the raw material is developed lots better nowedays, but you have the electronics now.
To compare is not possible, because the percentage weight/HP is lots different.
(200HP-38tonnes / 400+HP-44tonnes) more motorways is less stress for the engine too, low revs ratios because of the higher power and nearly the same weight over here 38/40 to 44tonnes.Of course in England there was more difference 32/44tonnes.Speed limiters and so on.And so the same story for fuel consumption of course in those days you had fuelwasters like the MB V8 and V10’s But in the '70s and '80’s we had surely very good engines who did over a million km. Such as Daf’s DKS,Volvo’s F12’s,MB’s V8,V10 and scania’s V8 and even lots of 110,111’s F88,89’s,2600 and some others.Yes you could overstress in those days the engines, gearbox and the whole driveline with ease, and so break everything. In those days indispendable drivers were a requisite. The best thing you can do nowedays is to let driving a 400+ engine with 60 or more tonnes on hilly A and B roads,so they will need fast a lower ratio and need more fuel, and not to speak about wear and so on.And let them drive too on a bit motorways at 60 miles at over 2000 revs.
Easily to distinguish a good driver looks at the clutch wear of his wagon.

Cheers Eric,

Hi again Eric, thank you for the reply.

Do you think that some of today trucks will be remember in the future like a F88 or LB111 is today?

It seems hard to believe when we consider all the SCR issues around the world.
