They’re forecasting another hard Winter -Volvo!!
This looked after me perfectly well for the last three winters.
Just a personal thing, I would prefer the manual gearbox on snow, I hope there isn’t too much this year
EDIT… the DAF should have a fridge as standard.
Regards,
Nick
Harry, if it was the A reg 3300 shown I’d go for that just for its nostalgic value! Sadly its not so in the real world I’d stay with the Volvo. You don’t say how old the Volvo is and what condition both of them are in, could just sway the argument. Will they not let you try the DAF for a week? Anyway lucky you as its not a MAN on offer!
I’m biased, the first truck I did TIR with was a Swedish spec lift ax F88 & DAFs were way back of the queue in those days.
If you spend more time driving then go for the Volvo, if you spend more of your time sitting about waiting to tip etc then the DAF.
A DAF is better when you aren’t moving, but the Volvo wins hands down for build quality and as a drivers truck.
On balance I’d probably go for the Volvo. I’m just getting sick of DAF’s falling apart and breaking down on me!

Can you get the 3300 back?
How about Llantrisant to Derby with NYK for Bosch?

There seems to be a lot of that happening on these forums now. Thick as ■■■■.

LOL
Heinz baked beans or supermarket own brand…the choice is yours but im having the volvo because
- The climate control works perfect
- Theres no bulge in the steps where screenwasher filler is that makes your foot miss the step when your in a hurry
- The door windows are glass and dont have a metal bar runing through them
- The auto box is the best that available today
- The exhaust brake/retarder actually slows you down
good luck and i hope you come back an tell us which one you took

Spose it should have been obvious really!
the volvos a perfectly good truck, the only problem is 30% of the cab is missing thanks to the dopey raked back windscreen so for me its the daf every time

DAF every time. The Volvo cab layout is a day older than snot! Raked windscreen reduces space, hump in floor, top bunk about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I would move into a Daf today given the chance.the daf cab is older than the volvo!
hump in the floor keeps dust and muck of your boots in the footwell so not in the middle
raked screen reduces space, fair point but i’ve never felt the need to do star jumps between the drivers seat and the bed
its volvo for me by far ( i think the volvo will be a better drive and the daf has more space)
I don’t carry muck into the cab, kick off shoes on the step and drive in clogs.

thats ok if you ponce about up and down the m way on rdc work its another story in and out of quarry sites
( where slip on boots or rigger boots are now not allowed) or farm yards where there will be a worzel watching some super trucker swapping his clogs for a set of nora’s
I drove a volvo for a year and hated it. The seat was hard and numbed my cheeks and made my legs ache. Thank the lord for the seat belt cos you had to hang on to the wheel to stop you sliding off the seat. I just could’nt get comfy. As for the ride, I nearly knocked my teeth out, and the bed was so hard it gave me sciatica. I swapped it for a Actros. I now have a 105 Daf, manual box which is brilliant. The auto box we had on demo was rubbish, (long delay), especially when loading under a transtainer at fxto, Another plus for the Daf, vision is much better under the crane, On the minus side, I don’t like the idea of no dipstick having to rely on screen info when its cooled down, and the truck slides about in wet weather with the midaxle down compared with the volvo. So, its Daf for me
