Volvo /man digi tachos

im sure when i had a man about 6 months ago with a digi tacho that if you were on your break [ ignition off] you could still scroll down and check how much break youd had, might take a minute to read correct amount of break but you could do it.
now when you try to check it with a volvo it comes up with a load of 0- o—, oo-- on the screen but not your actual break, the odd time [ once or twice it has come up] but 99.9% of the time it doesnt, switch on ignition it doesnt, you have to move then it comes up .
am i remembering the man wrong [ sure im not] and it was the same.

am i doing something wrong with the one in the volvo which is why the amount of break isnt comming up just by scrolling down, if it is how it works it seems daft as its idea to be able to have a quick check on your break to see what youve had.

note- not on about while im driving thats fine, just when im stopped

Place i,m working just now has MAN and Volvos all ages.

On break with the ingition on you can scroll down get your break time up, somtimes with the Siemens the time is out or shows zeros but after a minute or so will show how long you have been on break.

Dont know if it works without the ignition on, never tried it since i work nightshift and i turn the ignition on so i can see the tachograph.

I had this with a Siemens digi tacho in an Actros the other week.

Just left it a few minutes and it came up automatically.

One thing I’ve learnt with them is not to rush them.

Also POA, clears the driving timer. Example today I did 30mins work 30 mins POA then roughly 3hours driving and 30 mins work then had a break 15mins. At this point my driving time reste to zero despite not having a 45 min break, the unit added up the POA and break to make 45 and reset the driving timer.

had that argument the other night with another driver and he said its a MYTH, but i know from past experiance its not.
same as the m.a.n i had the other day still resets to zero if you have 3x15, 20-25 . in my opnion the technologys out of date to the new laws already

This is exactly why i said in another thread that i won’t be governed by the tacho or trucks computer, but keep my own time… and i was taken to task over my comments!

As has been said a number of times before;

the legislation governing how digital tachos add up break / availability / unknown of 15 minutes or more and when they reach 45 minutes and reset the driving time is exactly how the tachograph legislation was written back in 2002.

Please don’t blame the tacho manufacturer they are only building the VU to do what the legislation says. Remember that the drivers hours changed in 2007 not 2002. If you feel bad about it (like I do) tell your Euro MP, if enough of us do that then we might get a recording instrument that helps us.
