Volvo FH540

Hi,

Could someone point me in the right direction for some familiarization on the dashboard. Not driven this unit before or any Volvo for a long time - looking for direction on switches to raise/lower unit wheels (6 wheeler) and trailer.

Also a brief guide for raising/lowering 5th wheel and setting weight distribution correctly to prevent damage to wheel-guards. I know the unit comes with a remote-control with up/down buttons - just a bit more info would be fab.

Been driving fixed box for a while - so pointers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

The new fh or it’s predecessor?

New - thanks chap

The work remote is an added extra, if you don’t have one then the corded remote is to the rear right of the drivers seat. It is self explanatory.

On the remote itself, once it’s switched on you should see the display is split into 4 sections. Use the arrows on the keypad below which corresponds with the display above.

For adjusting the axle height, it’s at the 3 o’clock position IIRC. You should see a ‘symbol’ of a solo unit, with arrows pointing above and below the rear of the unit. Click on that and again use the arrows to adjust the ride height accordingly. You can also go into the MENU and check up on the ‘Load Indicator’ and ‘Level Control’. If this ■■■■■■ you off, just use the switches below the fan to the right of the steering wheel.

Once you’re under and up, the unit it’self adjusts automatically back to Drive Height when you set off and speed builds up. If you want, you can do this yourself by pressing the button which again looks like a solo unit with an arrow pointing up and down.

The lift / tag axel switch is pretty much like any other. One ‘O’ with another ‘o’ to the 10 / 2 o’clock position and an arrow above. The bottom of the switch is ‘OO’ together (these represent the wheels). When off (switched up), the axle will be raised. Switch it to the middle and it will auto drop / raise. Holding it in the down position will drop it.

Hope this makes sense to you. Have fun with the handbrake, even after a few hours I still hadn’t got used to it!

Thanks fella that’s good stuff. Know what you mean about the handbrake, really don’t like it. I’m being given a brand new unit after Easter and want to take care of it.

If it’s in gear with the handbrake on, just press the accelerator like you’re going to pull away and then the handbrake goes off on its own. Oh, and don’t lean on the gear lever because it likes jumping back into neutral when you app ya bit of weight on the lever.

Good luck, chap.

Came across this:

It’s a bit long, but pretty much explains everything in the cab.

Good luck!
