Hi, ive just reciently bought a 6 wheeler Volvo FH12 tilt and slide recovery truck with a 5 ton spec lift. I want to put a 13500 Cormach crane on it but it started of life as a low ride tractor unit, will I run into any difficulties fitting this■■?
Is there anything i should watch out for on the version 1■■?
IIRC the low ride versions i
Of the series 1 FH tractor had a stepped chassis. The front end was deeper and the chassis was stepped to a shallower rail just behind the engine. I certainly remember a few of Brian Yeardley’s being like this. I’m not sure if this would have a bearing on a large capacity crane.
Basically they are a sound motor with few inherent faults. A lot of showmen seem to have turned to them so that shows they must be pretty reliable and capable of towing.
Thanks Neil, I think mine has a stepped chassis, thats what was worrying me about fitting the crane, from memory its like the below, the crane roughly weigh’s about 1800KG which i think should be ok on the front axle and still have a decent pay load. I take it i shouldnt have any issues fitting a crane to this chassis■■?
AXLE… _________
Can i fit a 4th axel if i needed it to carry the weight■■?
What MPG should i be expecing running about 26 Ton■■? 340BHP not mapped.
