Wouldnt it be a lot cheaper to stretch an artic?
Looked into this we need a Tag Axle to make it a rear lift axle, mid lift axle not a lot of good to us, but tags are like draw bars hard to find.

It doesn’t have to start off as a tag axle though. You can stretch a midlift and convert it to a tag, or even start with a 4x2 and add a third-party axle as part of the stretch.
Does it have to be 05-onwards? There is a tidy-looking 04 FH12-460 with the GTXL cab for sale on trucktrader.
04 without the drag

03 with the drag

would a left ■■■■■■ be any good, i can find you a few of those…
the 04 has been sold 2 weeks before Xmas, looking into 03 plate, but a little too old.
Thanks any way.

we did that with a DAF 85 , would prefer an original factory build though

Totally agree, have stretched a couple myself but this time I went to Sweden and bought a factory rigid with rear lift.

Do purpose built ones handle a lot better then? you would think in this day and age of laser alignment ect that the stretchers should be about spot on.

it’s not the alignment , factory built rigids usually have a better steering lock, the biggest problem I had was the lift axle would snap a spring bolt about twice a year !

it’s euros not pounds , but still over £30k !
The problem I would have with those would be ground clearance !

If you compare them to a bog-standard tractor unit then no, they are hideously expensive in that respect.
However, high-spec original build drawbar units (and bear in mind the prices in those adverts include the trailers as well) represent a niche product (even on the continent) and so always command top money if in good condition, even with a few miles on the clock. As these are such niche pieces of kit then the tend to be worked until they fall apart (much like car transporters).
Just look at the price of an ex-stobbie RHD fleet spec drawbar unit, even at over a million clicks and showing their age they still make strong money, and generally all they inevitably end up doing is getting chopped down to make hay/stray wagons in the UK.

Thats a good reply to the question, thanks. If that drawbar Volvo was a tractor unit it would be worth 10k so that leaves 27k for the trailer (which is only twin axled) and the stretch, i know what i would rather do.
