Yes i believe it was, i have heard that off a couple of people although i bought it off a guy in Bedford. I have got some history on it but am still missing a few years, still cant seem to find any details about Joyce and son ?
hi all i believe the f89 may have been owned by l j joyce from frampton cotterrell near bristol i have seen another of his on bubbles pics i think he used to do continental, last time i saw it it was parked up in avonmouth .
Great pics Jamie, yes the air filter on Rowly’s F89 is fitted on the right hand side of the engine, the ducting to turbo inlet runs over the top of the rocker cover in front of the outlet as shown in Rowly’s engine picture above.
Hi all, a mate of mine works at a volvo dealer in aus as a fitter and he recons the cab on a RHD G89 is mounted higher up than on the F89 which helps to make this possible.

G’day Scrapper mate,
Although I’m not 100% sure of the cabs being raised, this is the first time that I’ve heard of it. I can’t say that I’ve noticed it either mate,if you look at the pic I put up of the G89 you can see that it’s no higher than the one in front of it and that is a G88.
I did notice that the floor was different inside the cab and that the gear stick tower in the cab was also different. I reckon that with a modifyed cab floor and gear sick tower and by moving the air cleaner to fit under the L/H rear of the cab it’s possable to have a R/H drive G89.
And if it were this easy why wouldn’t Volvo Sweden adopt the same ideas and make the F89 R/H drive?
Not enough sales to the UK,for the amount of work and extra tooling involved?
Or did they want to focus on the 290 hp “UK Special” F88 and push this project?
The F89 was just a stopgap cos the F10/12 was almost ready for production.Scania were already selling big engined motors so Volvo had to come up wiyh something quick until they could release the F10/12.

Didn’t the F89 arrive on the scene around 1972…ish…the F12 began production around 1977

It was the F88 290 which was a stop gap for right hand drive markets the F89 was out late 60s or early 70s

Some scanned in old pictures of Rowlands 141 being reborn. It was done as a long term restoration by Paul Pearce at Advance car & commercials, Caerphilly.
