Voluntary organisation

Hi

My mate at work works part time for a large youth organisation.

They have been given funding to purchase and double deck trailer for carrying their goods and as a mobile stage for fund raising events.

They are also fortunate that a vehicle manufactorer has agreed to “loan” them on a long term basis a tractor unit.

Does the digital tacho in this unit need to be used when the whole rig is being moved from place to place? No hire and reward is connected with the use of the unit/trailer (fuel costs only to be reimbursed).

Any ideas?

Pete

is it a registered charity?
do they need/have an o’licence?

It think they are a registered charity (99% sure) dont think they need an O Licence as it is not hire and reward but they are hoping the could use the “showmans” exemption to run the vehicle.

they wouldn’t need a showmans exemption. they would be exempt from eu tacho regs.
there is a form to fill out at a vosa test station which will exempt the vehicle from using a tacho, not just the operator.

No o-licence for a charity but everything over 7.5t for private use now needs a disc/card in the tacho. Which is an issue if you want to use professional drivers on their weekend.

With a charity I would imagine VOSA woud only take a draconian view if there really was a real road safety risk from the activities, from a PR point if view.
