Vocational ban

Hi all,

Does a trip to the Traffic Commissioner about a 7.5T bridge strike which ends with a vocational ban only affect Group 2 large vehicles entitlement such as Class 2 driving?

Grandfather rights commercial BE Van and Trailer entitlement or grandfather rights C1 7.5T are not part of any vocational ban right?

Also, is B driving a van at work stopped under a Traffic Commissioner vocational ban?

Thank you.

If hit a bridge with a 7.5 tonner would expect any ‘vocational’ ban to affect C1 entitlement regardless of grandfather rights.
Lucky if it isn’t a blanket ban, including B, for dwdca or careless etc.

A vehicle under 3.5T is nothing to do with the TC.
Driving it is just work and is not “driving” as related to LGVs and tachographs and LGV licences.

But it could involve both the TC regarding removal of the C1> ‘entitlement’ and the law regarding the penalties on the licence in general like a speeding offence etc.

while you might not lose the C1 entitlement, you won’t be able to work driving 7.5T because you need a CPC even for 7.5T work, and if you have been banned, then any vocational entitlements are lost, so crash a HGV, you also lose PCV too.
I might not be right, but you should be able to still drive 7.5T for strictly private use only.
If you drive only upto 3.5T vans, then you should be safe.
But check with a lawyer experienced with this aspect.
Meanwhile check your licence on the DVLA site. You know, as if you’re doing a licence check.
It will show what your current entitlements, plus CPC status is. Logically the TC should have informed DVLA that you have had your vocational licences removed, or if it’s a temporary ban it will be listed under the disqualification section. But as we all know, they aren’t logical and don’t properly talk to each other.
But check your online driving record.
