On the face of it the merc would’ve been better turning across the wrong side of the island to make the turn

The line " in my day a driver would have known by looking g at the corner if there would be enough room" implies that today drivers do not posses that skill. I can assure you that most of us do. Just like there were drivers in your day, who would have had difficulty tying their boot laces.

Nope I did not say that either. All I said was the ones in the pics obviously do not possess that skill but seeing them does not fill me with confidence in others.

See? You are doing it again. Pointing out the obvious stupidity of an isolated example, and extrapolating it onto every driver working today.

It is not an isolated example though. There are 3 pics of 3 trucks all made a turn that is impossible. Not only that I see examples on the road most days. Just complete incompetence. Standards are appalling and I am not the only one that realises that on here.
Maybe it’s time you realise not all lorry drivers are perfect like you and I.

Three out of how many lorries driving past there every day? How many lorries going to Caterpillar every day?

Anyway if they cannot read a road sign what chance have they got of judging a corner by looking!!! :unamused:

I can’t argue with that

Saw something similar in Edinburgh yesterday, artic driver following a sat-nav, turned left off Ferry Road & got halfway round only to find he didn’t have enough room. An experienced driver would have taken one look at it & carried straight on!

In the good old days pre-satnav, your eyes would have told you not to do it, too many imbeciles MUST go where the sat-nav says, regardless.

+1 Exactly right.

I had a delivery a few weeks ago, fertilizer to a farm in Devon… :unamused: . Google maps on my phone (you really think I pay money for a sat-nav when I get one on my phone? :grimacing: ) pointed the way to the farm. The first suggested route looked a bit awkward,so I decided to carry on for the second suggested option. But e sign post for that road said ‘light vehicles only’. Now having driven milk lorries I’m well used to driving where signs say ‘unsuitable for HGV’ , but this being Devon, I carried on to the third option. This however, was a very tight right turn, turning back on itself, so on I went, as I already noticed that there was a roundabout a few miles further. It was tempting to turn around, and take that turn, as it looked like a straightish road to my destination farm. But ten years hoofing around country lanes gives you a certain… sixth sense. I rang the office, to get me a phone number for the farm.
The farmer explained that I did have to take the lane wit the sign ‘light vehicles only’, as any other route would see me stuck… :unamused:

Nothing wrong with a cheap sat-nav. Or an expensive one. It is always the operator that gets it wrong.

Ain’t that the truth.
