vienna parking

Good day all!
It looks as if i will be having a few days waiting in the vienna area next weekend. Does anybody know of a good parking area/truckstop with reasonable facilities that will be open ■■ In an ideal world it would be somewhere i could walk into a town/city from. But facilities is the most important. I await your learned replies.

There’s a big Raststätte on the southern ring HERE.

Naturally, parking is free.

Pretty sure you will be able to hop over the fence and grab a bus down town.

Also handy to know: FM4 is an Austrian radio station that broadcasts predominently in English and plays cool tunes

theres a big parking area near the railway if i remember but dont know the address sorry

I was trying to think of that one, I’ve stopped there and it’s easy to get into town for sightseeing but it was a few years ago and I can’t remember the address or how to get there.

RIGHT here are a few tips, LINK-1
as you come down the A21 into Vienna there are ´two
truck stops one on each side for both you have to leave the motorway
also little further down you come to the ring road head towards
Nicklesdorf and there was a motorway services around here
with only a few parking places, but you are next to the public road as well so should catch a bus in to the city, Not sure if there is secure parking by the airport, but that is a fair distance away from the city,

It depends where in Vienna are you going or how far are you willing to veer of.
Coming by the A1, there’s autohof right where the motorway changes into ordinary dual carriageway, I think it’s exit 9. If you carry on you’ll pass Hutteldorf rail station on your left (cann’t miss) and then there’s a shopping centre, big Ford dealer and McDonalds; I think the place is called Hackinger. Further into the city you used to be able to park at Schonbrunn, but it may coaches only these days.

In the east there’s obviously the OMV refinery in Schwechat and places around it, like Danubestrasse - you may need to walk to facilities though.
There’s also the OMV Simmering autohof on the A4.

In the south you have Guntramsdorf services (perhaps a bit too far) and LKW Walter depot in Wiener Neudorf (somebody told that they run a bus into the city for weekending drivers).

I think the Schwechat services on the S1 Inselaffe mentioned also have a bus service to the city.

In the north there’s kagran and stadlau gewerbepark on the S2, can be busy and tight for lorries.

edit: forgot about another location - Freudenau docks.

We used to park in front of the Cathedral on the ring road just by the police station, no problems and the Irish bar round the corner would let us use their shower. If I was driving there I would find it no problem, but looking on Google earth and autoroute I can’t for the life of me find the place, only a 2 minute walk into the very center of town as well. I know this post is not very helpful, but if you spot a cathedral as you go round it will be there

jimti: a big church on ring road with irish pub around the corner strongly resembles votivkirche to me, university is on the other side of the road. There’s a big police station further up the road towards Danube. I cann’t recall where one would park a lorry there… It’s very much on the edge of the city centre, on the inner ring road. The ring makes kind of V around the church. If you follow either of the roads out of the city you’ll get to a big hospital.

Also the “the big parking area near railway close to city” the other guys are talking about, I was first thinking of Sudbahnhof Ost or Meidling, but those are not very big. Now I’m thinking of Praterstern station, as you go out of the centre towards Donaucity, big kind of roudabout around the station building and then some stores and idle plots between tracks on the left. There was some redevelopment going on, so I am not sure how it looks today. But perhaps - more likely - the guys mean Nordwest station, it has lorries parking along one side and then a lorry park at the end.

That cathedral you park right in front of the doors, it’s a bit public but it was where the police said we could park, so I have used it a few times (not in the last 3 or 4 years though).
Wasn’t there a big fairground that you could park at in Vienna?

Would the big fairground be The Tivoli Gardens ?

The Tivoli Gardens are in Copenhagen, the one in Vienna is called The Prater.

D’oh

It’s a good job I wasn’t trying to give directions too, Tivoli would be a l o n g drive from Prater.

I park in a railway siding off of, Felber Strasse, no facilitys but you can get into town easily, one of those sports betting cafes nearby and you can see all the Football and wi-fi if i remember, good restaraunt nearby but slow, LOHRG 13, lots of naughty ladies around, if thats your thing. I have a shower in last services and just use the cafes and bars for the calls of nature, i would rather be close to the centre lots to see, Enjoy !

I seem to remember euromat posting a picture on here a couple of years ago with a load of Transam trucks parked up next to the railway in Vienna.
Buggered if I can find it though…

Probably the same place.

That’s the one, just Google mapped it to confirm it, we used to deliver to a transport company in there. That cafe used to be okay apart from one of the women in there having the hairiest armpits I’ve ever seen, looked like she had a guardsman’s busby under each arm. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:
