Dramatic footage shows the moment brave police officers prevented a serious collision on the M6 toll after a car travelled the wrong way on the northbound carriageway towards oncoming traffic on Monday night (19 August 2014).
Two force traffic officers risked a head-on collision, deliberately blocking the path of the Honda Jazz as it travelled south in the outside lane near to the junction with the A38 approaching three lanes of traffic which had already brought to a standstill just before 10pm.
The footage shows the two PCs spotting the Honda coming towards them at speed and how they positioned their vehicle to prevent it reaching the oncoming traffic and force it into the central reservation. It also conveys the danger they faced and their apprehension as the vehicle approached.
The 77-year-old driver, who has dementia, was not injured during his ordeal and, after being checked over by paramedics, was taken home to his family.
christ, the old boy didn’t have a scoobydoo what was going on then.
hopefully no more licence for him
Thought the copper done well with that last minute little swerve to the left took a lot of sting out that collision.
I’m always watching my parents to see if it’s time for an intervention when they’re driving.
The coppers must of had some bottle. Not sure i could of sat there like that.

It’s the calmness of his radio call afterwards. Not many could keep such composure after doing something like that.

And yet some on here slag off coppers non stop.
Why the ■■■■ was he “sent home”? Age and “condition” shouldn’t come into it. He should be banged up for it as that could’ve very easily taken out some innocents as he had no intention of stopping whatsoever. Law in this country is so ■■■■■■ up.
Surprised it wasn’t a Nissan Note or Micra.
I almost got t-Boned by a Honda jazz yesterday, the old boy turned right out of a junction onto a busy main road and he didn’t even slow down!! Blasted my horn and he wasn’t even aware I was there

It would not stop someone if they had a licence or not, and having altzeimers, they would probably be oblivious of the fact.
.
Removal of access to a vehicle and keys is the only option.
I wonder if he did it to avoid the tolls… stranger things have happened.
Fair play to the copper but that could have easily ended in a head on. Now I don’t know the full story but would it not have been easier to drive in front of the old man and bring him to a gradual stop by slowing down? Even if he hit the back of the cop car, surely it would still have been the safest and best way to end it.
Well I can’t fault the outcome but maybe the methods leave something to be desired imo. I mean they’re always crowing about stingers on the TV shows, and in this case they knew with certainty where he was gonna appear. Why not just “sting” him?
I would have thought he couldnt be stung as the stinger will only cover 1 lane nd he had 4 he was using.
I also thought about driving with him and slowing him down but that would require a huge road closure and i doubt there was sufficient time to organise this.
I bet he had Highway to Hell
banging out and was shouting
come,on ya muther fluffers.

You’re unable to differenciate the wrongs and rights of what coppers do ? Or should we accept it that because these coppers in this instance took a great chance for public safety, that every copper does the same in every circumstance?
Pimpdaddy wouldn’t ■■■■ on a copper if he was on fire… even if said copper had just dragged Pimpdaddy’s dear old mother from a burning vehicle and courageously ■■■■■■ on her to extinguish the flames.
I think that was rambo19’s point.
