Just drove through a village during the 8pm clap fest.
Giving it large on the air horns, so glad I haven’t got a truck with a meep meep road runner horn.
Just felt very odd having people waving and smiling as you drive past and kids jumping up and down, even an old grandma waving frantically and people generally smiling and waving at you.
Usually I’m on a motorway by then or sat at some ■■■■■ hole.
Nice to see even the slightest of appreciation to people working to be fair.
Obviously once this is all over all the front line workers and key workers and those that have had to keep on working will soon be forgotten about. And truck drivers will just be back to being a menace on the roads tearing up the streets.
Like I say it felt rather surreal and odd, I mean we’ve all had the kids on a bridge begging for air horns and on buses and the like before. But most of the Street out frantically waving and banging pots and cheering etc is deffo surreal.

Simcor you got it so wrong . They weren’t waving at you for supporting them they were asking you to shut the… up cos you were waking the dossers up and grandma wasn’t waving at you -she was wanting you to stop over so she could make you the traditional morning after breakfast!
dozy:
Was on a industrial estate that was deserted , but still got out and gave our nurses & doctors a clap
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
this is the mindset of the sheep/lemmings/people that the government have made lockdown rules to protect from themselves meaning that everyone has to suffer …jesus wept

It’s all very North Korea.
My other half had the hump with me, because I didnt join in with the clapping…
We need to be careful when we head out to clap for the NHS workers.
Who is it really helping? Sure it is nice to be appreciated & of course the NHS workers do genuinely get a lift from us showing our appreciation.
It is, however, also mighty convenient for our sick leaders. It diverts attention away from them having to give any real rewards to the NHS staff. They again & again pull up the ‘let’s show our appreciation for the NHS by clapping’ card to show they care for the NHS. It allows them to get away from dealing with the real issue & that is paying them adequately for the job they are doing. Can you imagine how much more powerful a position they would be in to get a pay rise if we did not clap for them? Without any symbolic appreciation they would have to be rewarded properly. It would be a just cause with everybody’s attention, lasting for weeks.
Only a few days ago in a cringe worthy podium display Matt Hancock offered other care workers a badge as their reward for their superb efforts. He even looked embarrassed to be doing it, as he well should have.
Can you imagine offering business, leaders bankers or politicians a clap or a badge as an alternative to the supersize pay rises they award themselves?
The clap & badge is like the “Northern Powerhouse” label or a lofty job title in lieu of a proper pay packet.
The clapping will also be used as a bellwether by the Government; to show them when our attention has waned so they can carry on business as usual against the NHS; as they have been for the previous few decades.
I suggest we should now start clapping slowly.
Let the slow clap mean we are waiting for the Government to now offer true appreciation; in the NHS workers’ pay packets.
Don’t forget one of the first things MP’s awarded themselves at the start of this outbreak was a £10,000 payment each; not a badge; not a clap.
I’m all for showing appreciation for those on the front line, doctors, nurses, ancillaries and cleaners that work in the hospitals.
Those having to deal with and help those that are infected, putting themselves in danger and maybe their families
I do hope that they are well remunerated for their work when this is all over
Has anyone been clapped at or cheered on any day other than a Thursday at 8pm. Yesterday (Friday) I went to one of my regular drops and have to drive through a building site to get to it. You have the obligatory orange jackets letting you though a section at a time and its not always clear which bit your supposed to drive along as they seem insistent on leaving gaps in fences that would squash a microbe if it happed to be on the side of the truck. Yesterday was one of those days and as I squeezed through I saw one of the orange jackets clapping with a silly grin on his face. thought he was being sarcastic.
Latter on saw this old dear come dashing out of a shop waving and clapping at a bus (no where near a bus stop) then she waved and clapped at me. twice more I saw people clapping at different points. Has this thing evolved into part of your daily exercise?

I was shifting 27ton of scrap metal yesterday. Does that make me a hero?
Immagine all the bling boys with nowt better to spend their wages on than tarting up their gaffers work tool are in their element at the bridge wavers.

its only when similar to poking at a bad tooth after reading your posts that i sometimes cringe on your behalf though in fairness my opinion is that you are just yet another troll as absolutely nobody could be so gormless and pathetically stupid to act or work the way you imply…fair play if you get away with it though.
