Very Professional foreign Nobby D driver

I have just witnessed utter madness by 4 car loads of female “yoofs” in suped up little rollerskates.
Senario :
Mr Nobby with his 6x2 left ■■■■■■ pulling a container aproaches a very tight junction on the one way in town, i think its a crap turn with two very tight lanes so he positions himself across both lanes to negotiate the junction at the lights. (I know its his only option, i used to do the same)
Young girls appear in said cars and using the pavement try to get past him on both sides !!! …bollards at the front stop their progress, lights go green and he cannot move or risk wiping out cars that are within inches of his cab…more cars try to go either side to make it worse…
He gets out and calmly waves at them and calmly waves them back, This takes minutes to do and more cars are hooting horns by now.
Finally he gets back in the cab in his Sandals and moves off…No stress showing.

Sir you were a True quality professional with some exceptional levels of calmness in a foreign country when confronted by Britains worst drivers with no road sense.
We may not have been able to converse but if I were still employing drivers I would want him working for me.
I know he will never read this , but if all drivers were as polite and observant the job would be so much easier…Award that driver a Cold beer or Six Mr Nobby D.

Thought this was going to be the usual, he cut by up because he was watching a film ■■■■■■ What a nice suprise.

Any reg plates ?

Excellent

I thought he was just so laid back it was great.
Personally i would have just sat there and called the boys in blue to nick the kids for grand stupidity…or have given them a slap!

He deserves the beers.

Sadly no reg numbers…I forgot to look !
It was a very clean and well cared for Man unit 6x2 , Eastern european I think .

He’s more of a professional than me then.
I would have started manoeuvring anyway until they got the point. I would have stopped when I felt I was about to make contact and then let them deal with it until they got the point of what was happening.
Some people can’t be helped, they have to help themselves sometimes.

Clearly a British driver driving a foreign lorry.

Ahh but did the ladies get their ■■■■ out, that is the question?

What about the lorry drivers that block lanes to turn when it is not necessary? And car drivers that swing out to make a turn?
What is that all about?

Shame there is no video.

Good post, and praise to the driver, but what was the mention about his footwear, did the flip-flops help him to maintain calm ? It is a scenario we all face in our daily lives, but with the advent of the dcpc, we should all end up better drivers after we have obtained our certificate of professional competence

From my perspective for lorries its goes something like this:
Your approaching a left turn lets say at a set of traffic lights your not familiar with, on approach i will instictively be moving towards the white line in the middle of the road (if its safe to do so) as the turning comes into view I can estimate that i need more room to make the turn so I pinch a bit of the right turn feeder at the lights, well lets say half of it so its not safe for vehicles to be on my right hand side as they would be on the other side of the road (this gives me an option to pinch a bit more later on).

OK so the lights are on red and I am just behind one car in the que but have enough of the right feeder to give me some comfort zone if I should need a bit more.

My nearside is now far enough away from the kerb to block cars but cyclists can still sneak through and theres a high risk they could place themselves outside my kerb mirrors view so i can’t see them.

Anyway lights change and watching nearside and front view like a hawk i slowly make the turn and also check the trailer front on my right isn’t going to catch anything on the swing round.

So the turn completes and trailer wheels miss the kerb by about a foot and I’m happy and proceed on my way.

If I hadn’t made enough room I would be in a right mess having to pinch more from the road i’m turning into which may not be possible.

Course theres a chance I have overdone it and took too much of the orignal road space but better to take a bit too much than not enough.

If cars tend to do this then thats just silly.

Same, if in doubt take the space, your only holding people up by seconds but there would be longer delays if you had a crunch. But then, you and I are professional drivers not perfect drivers

Yep I’m no where near perfect, so many different scenarios- had one in my early days where I had to reverse as I hadn’t initially created enough space, I wasn’t too popular on that day.

They might have done, when i have mine on which is every minute i’m not working or sleeping i do tend to feel more chilled. :sunglasses:

Good thing he wasn’t driving a Renault :)

I didnt think about it, I was so amazed at the girls stupidity and their lack of sense , and i did have an ipad that i could have filmed it…■■■■. They were within inches of his cab it was amazing he got out of the cab to sort them.

I had something similar a couple of weeks ago. I’d disloaded in Kilmeston, just off the A272 east of Winchester and was on the way back out to head north. Just before rejoining the 272, there’s a hard right turn immediately followed by a hard left turn. Approaching the right-hander, and bearing in mind the road is about 8 feet 6 inch wide, I’m faced with a woman on a horse coming towards me. She obviously thinks better of it, turns the horse round and waits on the verge by the right hander. At this point, 2 cars appear and promptly panic :unamused: , at which horsey woman makes likes Marshall Sam McCloud and literally marshalls the cars so I could get past. The dear thing sat there and waved them all out of harms way and left me gobsmacked and seriously impressed. If I’d had the room to stop, I’d have thanked her properly and given the horse an apple :grimacing: .
