It was between jct 5 & 6 so wouldn’t have a hard shoulder.

It says if the driver of the van was in it he might have died, I’d say he definitely would have died, both lucky though but not a good idea these motorways without hard shoulders.

I broke down on the m1 southbound on the bank right after toddington services although I managed to get in to the emergency layby the HA were there in not many seconds and had stopped the hard shoulder running straight away too .

People like myself and tetragaz would have a problem in these situations Dan. I do carry a magnetic flasher for the top of the van, but doubt if anybody would notice it.

It was only ever a matter of time before this became an issue.

I was using the hard shoulder on the M6(s) one day and a vehicle was broken down, but let me tell you, it took me a few seconds to realise it was a broken down vehicle, I’d virtually come to a stop before having to try and get out into the next lane to pass it - which was moving a lot quicker. It had no lights, no hazards, nothing.

i really do think not having hard shoulders is wrong i would prefer a hold up than no hard shoulder

Agreed.

I must be one of the few that like it. Great to virtually have a lane to my self and also have priority when its time to get back in lane 1.
