Now n then see a really long skid mark on the road where a truck? wheel has locked up.i was wondering for those of you who have been in that situation ,was there a horrendous noise or nothing much?
I would say that depends on the weight on the wheel and the type of road surface.Anything from a scraping sound to a screech.
Depending on road surface more like a wooshing noise, sometimes a screech/howl if the skid goes over a wet painted line or really smooth surface such as where the road has melted, often you can feel it more than hear it.

I ever had was an empty 20 foot skelly on drum brakes locking up coming into a set of lights in Southampton. That did make a racket.
If the F10 I was driving at the time had telematics, I’d defo had got a harsh braking.

How many skids marks are from those pathetic BPW rear lift trailer axles where the rollers seize up the heal wears and the supposedly swinging bracket seizes up on the spring hanger pin ?
Oh my god! Look at the thread title people, it’s been over 2 days, and they have all been serious answers. Long skid mark. Noise. Come on. I’m disappointed

It’s going well thanks for asking, despite the last 2 years, closed/open closed/open etc. business has been picking up nicely since Xmas. I’m not as involved now as I’m picking plenty of agency shifts up, but spend plenty of time in there abusing the coffee machine on my days off

Got someone a treat with one of thems. You know those ■■■■■ who nip in front of you and use up all your braking space? Fair few years ago I was heading for the Blackwall pipe and saw the queue. But I also spotted the parked up motorbike copper. Not so the cockflange who pulled in front. I had a thirty footer on that was notorious for locking up, thought “sod it”, checked the mirrors for innocents and smoked it. I swear the copper went beetroot as he pointed at the car driver, who’d only just noticed him. Pulled round them and off I went. Doubt I do it now, mind. I was young and even more stupid then, and ABS is better these days.
