I do miss the old days when ones gaffer would give you a private bollocking and then all forgotten rather than folks today who cry at being sweared at giving it the big un that they would retaliate with violence (yeah right). Which lead to the whole HR bollox we see now.
FFS guys man up give as good as you get or take your bollocking like a man. One things for sure outside the workplace these bosses wouldnt dare talk to you in the same way but while at work just get on with it.
Maybe political correctness is too blame but ive had many bollockings in my time and got on better with my boss afterwards. No need for all this corporate / cant smack the kids bullpoop. Seriously just crack on or behave like a man and spend the night in your bloody truck.

Whats with all the “should have decked him” and “Id have flattened him” comments? What are we,15 years old? Thats assault. And who do you think the cops will be harder on when they arrive? The other guy has to swing first. That’s just the way it is. You swing first because “oh the bad man shouted at me” and YOU get lifted. And the best advice you can ever get is,dont pick a fight with someone you dont know coz you have NO idea what that person is capable of. Im a hot head,prone to getting P’ed off pretty quickly (I know that surprises some of you! ) but im always in control and will be on guard for the other one throwing punches first. Anyone who thinks steaming in there and leathering him is acceptable doesnt belong in society. There’s no need,or justification, for it.
For me,the best response is,in a calm,non shouting and JUST below threatening but enough to know you mean business,tone say “Who do you think your talking to? Who do you think you are? Dont you ever talk to me like that. Im here to do a job same as you. Pull your neck in and watch what your saying”. With the right tone,delivery and look on your face ,this is the most effective methoed in my humble opinion. Ive used it once before and it worked. Bullys dont like people who arnt afraid of them.

aye worked for a boss like that hairdryer in your face if you screwed up …take it…if he was wrong tell him that ,red face an awe that …used to end with kf off im not paying you to stand about. That was it all over the next time you would meet the boss it was all forgotten . A real mans man and sadly missed even by the guys that got a bollocking every day,

The last time I hit some one is back in 1988 and when I was forced to go and see him lying in hospital with drips attached to his arms on life support machine I relised I needed to cool my actions.
I now prefer to expres my concerns but if the message dosnt get through I takes more direct action to resolve the issue

When he abused you on the phone and you said you called your wife to collect you what you should have done is went with your wife and left the truck and not wait for him you gave him enough notice, NOT HIT HIM. That’s if you did call your wife, must be very hard working for someone like that, what’s he like on a day to day basics.
Best thing to do is stand up to them don’t swear or go to there level then mention u have recorded everything that was said and your going to take legal advise watch him become your best friend and keep a diary of everything your have done

Well I wouldnt go as far as claiming to be a saint. The old red mist descends on me too. Ive thrown the first punch on more than one occasion,like the time a junkie with his hands in his pockets told me I was getting stuck with a used needle. To this day Ive no idea if he had one or not but ill be damned if I was going to find out the hard way. I know its hard to keep calm when your getting dogs abuse but I prefer not to give them the satisfaction of getting me done for assault
If I was being a ■■■■ and got lamped for it, the last thing on my mind would be calling the law. The same applies to whoever I’ve given a right hander, in both cases we got a clump because we deserved one.
On the one hand we have people moaning about the old bill and their draconian application of, for example, the road traffic act (an act, not a law) and then we have people wanting someone to get life with no chance of parole for gobbing off down the phone or calling them names.
It’s simple, if you’ve been a ■■■■ and somebody points this out to you, just STFU and take it like a man, if they’re out of order and they shout at you, tell them to FRO. If they lay hands on you it doesn’t matter if they’re right or wrong, you put one on the end of their hooter and win, lose or draw, you can be happy in the knowledge that your parents didn’t raise a little girl.

I’ve had the hair dryer thing when I first started but times change, the 70s ways of doing most things have long gone, things should be done on a more pro style basis nowadays I reckon.
There is nothing wrong with being reprimanded if you have done something wrong, but there’s a fine line between a good bollocking… and abuse, and an even finer line between abuse… and bullying.
If I have done something wrong I will, and have done, hold my hands up to it and take the reprimand. However I will not be screamed at end of! and I will let them know this by telling them I won’t stand for it, with just the right look to back it up,… and it has worked a lot of times in the past. Smacking them in the teeth will only lead to the sack.
Maybe I would deal with things differently in say a pub situation where some ■■■■■■ is gobbing off at you, but work is different, we are supposed to be professionals are we not, so it should apply from both parties in a work/job situation.
Get a lot of bosses like that, will scream abuse go crazy best to do as snowman says firmly have a word. He will either back off and be decent (think its a alpha male thing) or continue being a ■■■■ and prob time for a new job.
Days of giving someone a crack are well gone unless you really want to get involved with the criminal justice system. Last time i thought it was a good idea ended up getting dragged out my house at 3am and spending the weekend down the cop shop but a load of legal hassles. I would assume most people these days especially a boss will call the cops. Even the most chavvy youth will run to the cops if you raise your hand to them even if they have started it. Even a threat of violence in a lot of companies will get you banned for life from the site.
