Asten used by Uk based drivers.
You will need to eat to get FREE parking

Heirehoeve Truckstop at Junc 39 on A67 near Venlo charge to park but I have only parked nearby outside DAF dealer without problem overnight (turn left at roundabout at truckstop and first on right into Tasmanweg).

The last time I looked, a few years ago, the Texaco T/S at Venlo was closed on a Sunday.
You could still get stuff to eat in the petrol station, I think all the necessities of life are available there, but there is much better at Nobis, j36.
You can also sort your vignette and Toll Collect at Nobis when you feel like it, which you couldn’t do at the Texaco either.

Is the Schwahenhaus Truck stop right at the top of the A61 still there?

Cut accross from the A67 through Venlo and at the roundabout where you join the A61 and cross the border, turn right, before the height barrier turn left and the truckstop is on the right.

Always used to stay there on a Sunday night, good food, showers and beer.

No that place shut a good few years ago. When the owner ( a grumpy old git IMO) died, his wife sold up and moved to sunnier parts (can’t blame her really).

I used that place for a good few years and only stopped just after Dirk ( if I remember rightly) died. He was alright once you got to know him and always used to look after the Brit drivers. He would get trucks moved if us removal boys turned up on mass and couldn’t find anywhere to park. He always reserved the far end for us…right next to the train tracks!!!

In all fairness it was a good stop, the waitresses were friendly, showers spotless and great food.

well we used nobis sun night plenty of brits there.

was goin to give it 9/10 but after getting the food bill i have to give it a 7

pizza 9.75
chips 2.50
mayonnaise 0.75
2 beers 7.00

shower 1.60 for 15 mins which was good value.

the parking would have been 10.00

the staff were very good all spoke english.
the pizza was good but it was just the prices considering it was in euros but you might as well said it was pounds due to exchange rates.

boss will not pay for parking when you are empty.

will use again but will just pay the parking and cook myself

No, the Schwanenhaus closed years ago. It was always a favourite place for me. I used to get free beer everytime I visited. What happened was that I saw one of our Dutch subbies with a puncture on the A61. I stopped, persuaded him to make coffee while I changed his wheel. We then went into the truckstop for the night. My new friend & colleague told the owner, I was given a plate or a jug with the truckstop logo on and a free meal.

Every visit after that, the patron would remember me, then tell the Dutch drivers that this was the Englishman who helped a Dutch driver  I was like a lost hero.

By hell though it seemed an awful long way to Europoort the next morning :stuck_out_tongue:

Another decent place was Truckstop t’ Ven on the last junction before the Fatherland

The Nobis prices sound about right,it’s expensive to eat almost everywhere now in Europe.
I usually only stop there in the mornings, the ‘All you can eat’ breakfast buffet (Ontbijt) is pretty good value.

I usually find the best value for money is at Rasthof Oldenburger Munsterland on the A1 at Vechta, excellent menu too.

Thank goodness for microwave ovens!

Yes, but they then knock that off your meal bill.

Most truckstops in Holland, Belgium and Germany do this now.
It’s to stop drivers parking up, using the facilities, but not spending any money in the restaurant.

But Neil can give that parking bill to his guv’nor thereby saving …you get the picture .

you want to phone him up some early morning and tell him your empty truck has had it’s curtains slashed and the cab locks have been broken, then ask where he wants you to park at night in the future. does your safety not matter with your boss? I can’t see why being empty should make any difference.
Go and park in a layby next time you are around Rugby, then he will start paying for parking for sure

I can also vouch for ROM Vechta being great value for money. 5 euro a night parking, and you get 5 euro back as a voucher. The shop is very well stocked, and I’ve never had a bad meal there.
The Nobis looked alright, but it was expensive. There is a rastplatz at the border, but it’s ALWAYS rammed.
