Vehicle Reports

Can anyone of the senior members tell me why it’s necessary for the operator of a haulage firm to keep records of fault reports etc for a minimum period of 15 months.

Because it is part of the contract you sign when you apply for a UK operators licence, it is also a legal requirement to keep all maintenance records for 15 months, drivers hours records for 12 months and W/RTD records for 24 months.

Years ago the records were stored in an outside wooden shed.
The shed would catch fire and the records destroyed. If the haulier heard that the man from the ministry was on the way for an inspection.

Wheel Nut:

I understand that part wheel nut but why 15 months & not rounded off to 12 or 24 months ?

As said earlier it is a requirement and one of the ‘Legal Undertakings’ for an O licence. It is one of the many date thresholds you are questioned on during Manager CPC exams…Why oh why can’t all the dates be the same■■? 12 months, 15 months, 2 years, 5 years, 6 years all need remembering relating to various legislation. A nightmare!!!
