Vehicle Faults

Most if not all the trucks of 7.5t spec or below don’t have radios, 24v (ciggy, accessorie, etc) socket and very often no way to lock the cab. Some of the issues with trucks are being dealt with as I spoke to the MD last week and also my next-inline manager. The faults are written in the fault book, so we do have a written record…

If you are covering any sort of distance I think you can ask for a radio under HSE regs.

As for faults its simple. Get them to sign a letter stating it is roadworthy. If they say no it can’t be and they are not worth working for.

The particular truck I have had a problem with has gone into MAN to have a new tacho fitted.

The other one, the one I was in yesterday, is still being used. Some of the faults have been fixed (ie fixings for holding equipment on the truck, but others have not, such as the washer jets.

I had to stop yesterday every 30 miles to clean the windscreen, and it only did 50mph anyway, so Coventry to Bristol took a while!

So everyone overtook me at about 55 ish including when I was doing 40 through the roadworks   Just because there isn’t a camera doesn’t mean you can speed through them?!

Oh well. I’ll just worry about my own licence shall I and not be bothered about all them there bendies overtaking me all the time. I should be used to it by now… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

ICBW, but I believe that a vehicle with non-functioning screen wash (even if the bottle is just empty) is considered unroadworthy by the police if you were to be stopped.

The vehicle would actually fail an MOT if either the botle is empty or if the washers are not working, So you could refuse to take this vehicle out (I would have refused).

Ahh. Thank you for that information. Next time I will be refusing it then, cos it’s cr*p that I needed to stop every ■■■■■■ 30 miles to clean the windscreen :frowning: Thought I’d never reach Bristol!!
