Vehicle DVR?

I’ve had a look through the archives and the only post I can find is this one

I’m not too sure if anyone has such equipment in their truck/vehicle. I bought one off ebay, and from the pictures the seller had,it came out of a truck. The one I have is similar to this

I bought it because I just got fed up with idiots taking risks in front of my driving path. Such characters tend to lie if an RTC does happen, but with footage it helps to keep me in the clear. I had an incident on the M60 travelling home from work. Traffic was heavy but moving, suddenly a female driver came out of lane 1 into lane 2 where I was,and I was travelling faster than her. My reaction was to steer away from her which left me running parallel with her straddling lane 2 and 3. And braking hard would not be wise, then someone blasted their horn and then I heard the impact. The driver in lane 3 took action to avoid me,which inturn sent him into the crash barrier. The female driver buggered off. I looked into my O/S and saw the damage. I tried to get the complete reg of the car causing the RTA,and at the same time pull over onto the hard shoulder, only got part of the reg. I reversed up the hard shoulder (which I should not have done according to the police officer) to were the car rested. Fortunately the driver was ok,and he did noticed who caused the RTA. Now,if I had this DVR connected,it would have footage of the whole incident and complete reg of the car.
My next problem is,Windows is not being able to recognise the DVR/HDD unit :imp: . I think it’s something to do with the drives on my computer

How does it connect? USB port? Does Windows install a new drive but you don’t see it in My Computer?
Windows may be trying to allocate a drive letter that is already being used by another device i.e. hdd, dvd, card reader.

Now pay attention here is the techy bit.

Right Click on My Computer and select Manage
Click on Disk Management

You should now see a list of drives that Windows has setup. Look at the bottom half of the right hand pane, it should say things like Disk 0, Disk 1, Cd-rom etc.

This is where you might see your DVR and also the drive letter Windows has allocated.
Right click on it and select Change Drive letters and paths.
Click on Change and select a new drive letter from the drop down list, choosing one not already used. Ignore the warning about blah blah.:unamused:
Click OK, Click Ok and then close down Computer Management.

Open My Computer and do a refresh of the drives, you should now hopefully see the DVR.
Wee tip if you use the same USB port for the DVR, then it should keep the same drive letter.

Let me know how you get on.

I have a portable device which is 12 volt. Stick an sd card in and it records onto it. Then download the footage using a card reader.

I got it off ebay. There is no sound and it doesn’t work very well in the dark.

It is cheap though

I haven’t spotted that. I have installed the software which is ok,but when I try to run the HDD I get this

I don’t have any other devices on the computer
