Makes me laugh , they wont pay the fines but can afford a less than 4 year old truck

What happens to the driver? His work vehicle had been seized but its not his issues.

Probably just that. Hell be free to come and go. But, since he has to get that vehicle rolling again, I doubt itll be too long?

He is free to get a ticket home, cadge a lift, get a job driving petrol tankers on agency for a few days too.

It doesn’t say where the truck is if its a services will he also get a big fine for the length of time he is parked there waiting for the original fine to be paid.

If he’s in a services he’ll have to pay his daily parking fee
If it’s a snap location co pays

When me and…

My second driver were captured at Tafalla in Spain because he’d been flown down to Gibraltar and despite the stamp on his passport and a plane ticket, the local plod demanded a written explanation as to why he had no cards until then. The firm should have supplied the aforementioned explanation before he flew. We were parked up with a sturdy steering wheel cover until the e2000 fine was paid.

Luckily, the service area had a bar so it was all good really.

The company should have done an attestation for the previous work periods so he had 28 days of proof you would have been ok then

Why was a fine necessary?

You’ve never done euro work then !!
Guardia civil trafico love to dish out fines esp to brits

Sorry Rob. I’ve never done any HGV work yet.

I’ll stick to the newbie forum [emoji846]

From Mr Larf`s story,
the 2nd man had no discs from the days previous to his driving this vehicle. So, no records. If he had a signed and stamped letter from company explaining why, then no problem.

Pre digi-card days there was a severe problem of littering throughout Europe…
caused by small pieces if ripped up paper, waxed on one side, with black marks on it, all along the road side of major routes…
To combat this there was a rule that non work days had to be accounted for.

Traffic offences by foreigners usually had “on the spot fines”. Not merely “on the spot tickets”, but cash had to paid therenthen.

Maybe that’s why they can afford it :unamused:

Why would they owe it to the border force though??

Why was a fine necessary?

Because its the primary way of punishment for non criminal road traffic offences.

Technically speaking the “fines” aren’t absolute and are just a deposit that tools the maximum that you can be fined for a particular offence. Thd deposit gets paid and away you go.

In reality you have a right to appeal it, go through the system and at the end you might end up with a fine of €500 handed out by a judge instead of the €2000 by the officer. But your legal fees to get to that point doesn’t justify it.

There’s a lot of… suspicion… when cash fines are concerned. I’ve had to fly out a number of times to bail drivers out of… situations (some of them pure stupidity, others just bad luck/human error) in a previous role. There was one case in particular that was very nasty and downright shady that cost fortunes but to be fair my lot had the money and wouldn’t accept the judgement or treatment the driver received so pushed it all the way out of principle and because they had deep enough pockets to have principles

If parking up by police or broken down in services they waive the fee as long as you inform them they just put ur reg in the vehicle recognition system

The reason on the on the spot fines is simple you don’t live in the country you get fined in if you lived there you get 28 days to pay
