At the company I’m working for at there moment we get £4 a day for not damaging the truck, if we do any damage then we lose the bonus for that month.

how bad are the drivers when they need a daily bribe to encourage them to make an effort not to trash the motors
I’m taking my last employer to the Small Claims Court at the moment to recover money stopped from my wages to pay for damage (which wasn’t even my fault anyway).
My girlfriend is an HCA. Somebody at work dropped a phial of drugs a few weeks ago and it smashed on the floor. It was worth over £1,000. She won’t have that money stopped from her wages.

I think its probably for insurance, but as far as I can tell the few permanent drivers they have all look after their trucks. I’m only temp there at the moment sadly
If we have a fault accident we have to pay the £250 excess or the full cost if below. Even office staff and the forklift drivers have this in their contracts. Its a wonder the forklift drivers ever get paid tho

Well I wouldn’t be signing that contract in a hurry.

Don’t stove in a Scania R door glass like I did one morning after I got locked out of the cab! £270.00 to replace!!
I could have got into that in less than a minute with no damage using a knife, or even a drawing pin.
Yer only if the central locking is working H, if its been taken off you aint going in under a minute with a knife .needle etc
I got locked out of a Volvo FH after the wind blew the door shut, took the volvo guy a minute to get in, but he stood on his van roof and did the old coat hanger trick on passenger side.

I go to work to earn money, if I wanted to take the risks I’d own my own truck.
If they want us to have a share of the risks, they should also give a share of the profits. It’s the job we’re in. As others have said, next they’ll expect us to pay for brake wear, tyre wear and fuel.

i would never agree to pay anything . i even went for a interview at reed boardall’s when i was on the dole.
when i found out i would have to pay for damage i never went back and told them to get [zb].

Unfortunately I look at it from a managers point of view. if the driver was negligent and the ‘damage’ could have been avoided - whu shouldn’t he pay?
Two examples happened in the last few weeks.
Driver ‘A’ whilst uncoupling ‘forgot’ to disconnect airlines and suzzies etc - ripped off every single one, 200 miles from base. The company now pays for red and yellow lines, electrical suzzies and someone to go and do the job. Why shouldn’t the driver pay?
Driver ‘B’ drove into a bollard on the off side ripping off the step, destroying the bumper etc and leaivng the vehicle unfit to be drive on the road. In his statement he said he had to be careful to avoid the bollard when reversing into the location and isn’t sure why he didn’t see it on the way out. new step, bumper, revocery fee and a £750 bill for damage to the bollard and floor around it. Why shouldn’t the driver pay?
Yes the company is insured - but with £1000 excess to pay. Anything big enough to claim on, well that just affects the premiums at renewal time. This particular company has just renewed the fleet insurance and it rose £48,000 on last years premium and the existing insurers said they wouldn’t renew.
Road traffic accidents I can sometimes see are perhaps ‘one of those things’ but some of the damage I see on a fleet of over 50 vehicles is just rediculous

I agree, I’ve run my own vehicles in the past and as soon as I brought in a “you bend it you mend it” rule, the accident rate dropped by 75%.
I didn’t like enforcing it on blokes who were genuinely good drivers and had just had an “off” day, but it had to be fair for everybody…
