Low cloud/mist … Crane that was hit is higher than the buildings, Heliport nearby
Not going to speculate on the accident as tower cranes have a lot of requirements for trying to make them visible when they are near flight paths / runways.
I did see on BBC News website London helicopter crash: Two die in Vauxhall crane accident - BBC News that a Sheffield Insulation Moffet Lorry was very close to being hit by tower crane jib! The Moffet was struck so I hope no-one was uncoupling/coupling at the time!
Hope the driver wasn’t near that in any capacity and that he is ok! Also I sincerely hope the tower crane driver got out safely as that is a long way down with only one escape route, speaking from having worked alongside them!
Thoughts go out there to those affected and involved.

I think they are talking about it clipping the top of that crane on “the peg” and hitting the ground on the foreground right in this pic where marked.
2 dead, there was only one person in the helicopter.
My ex used to work just around the corner from there. It can be quite busy at Vauxhall station so it’s surprising how few casualties there are.
Helicopters - both civilian and military - are told to follow the path of the river through central London. The construction site has been there for a number of years now, and from what I’ve seen of the crane before the crash, the crane didn’t go over the river.
It may also be of note that the MI6/SIS HQ is at Vauxhall Cross, just a few hundred metres down the road from the crash site.
I image the roads around the area will be closed for most of the day.
Here’s some pictures including the damaged crane…news.uk.msn.com/images.aspx?cp-d … 971&page=2
I just read that the crane driver was late for work this morning otherwise he would have been up there, hopefully that’s a true story.
Apparently it was an Agusta A109 Helicopter.
says on sky news that the crane driver was climbing up to the cab at the time of the accident
Truck driver on tv he got out just before it hit his truck
Truck driver, Poss Sheffield Insulation?, being interviewed on sky now

Its amazing, you couldn’t make it up if you tried, your ex used to work round the corner, so from that bit of information you hold, you now seem to be suggesting it may be something to do with MI6, did you serve in the SAS?, were you on the balcony? Did you just miss the boat?
its amazes me where these people pop up from with their conspiracy theories, its a tragic accident, and the fact that your ex used to live around the corner doesn’t make your theory right. some people should remain in RDCs forever and not be let out
Pilot named as Peter Barnes (50) , a well respected helicopter pilot who worked for BBC, SKY TV and recently Coast. He flew scenes in Bond film Live and let die and many others.
Nothing untoward, just a tragic accident or misjudgement.
