Vastly Experienced Recent Diary in Pictures

Fantastic pics harry ,have you any more?

regards dave

These are not mine ,Dave. I just put 'em on here for the Vast.

Very nice pictures. I liked especially the winter ones.

harry:

How does this kind of trailer door work at winter? Or maybe the first question should be how this kind of doors are opened? I’ve never seen this kind trailer doors in real life and I think not even on an good picture. I suppose it’ll “roll up” into the trailer/trailer roof which sounds like recipe for unusable trailer doors when water or sleet freezes on them.

They are for ramp/bank use in big distro warehouses. They are backed up to the bank & it is the loading /unloading crews prob to open & close them. EG ,in this country ,Sainsbury,Tesco ,etc. But I should imagine that if the load falls on them they could get sticky.Oh,I see its Kybro; They roll up…& down. With this type of work the driver seldom gets in the back. These shutters are common in the UK. It enables the trailer to dropped on a ramp, unloaded loaded & re-sealed without the driver being present. If you look at the bottom of the shutter you can see the door catch .Its a lever that is pulled up to open.

Excellent pictures Harry
I notice they dont have snow chains on

They carry 'em but they also have snow-curtains in the cab if it gets really bad… These have been on the truck since it was new in December & will probably stay new for a long time to come. He’s not called Experienced for nothing! ( NB; These are not my snaps.I am just passing them on. )

stinky:
I notice they dont have snow chains on

There are almoust dry roads with no snow on them so why use chains? And there aren´t any hills…

great pics harry (on behalf or exp!)

A lot of the LTL ( less than truckload ) carriers in North America use these kind of roll up doors , mostly are used by companies that do a lot of deliveries EG. grocery, LTL, auto parts to stores ETC. Bad thing about this type of door it limits your load height, as door when open is a good 12" below ceiling. another bad thing is they get hung up a lot, and guide wires break .
Hope this explains. Cheers Ken

Wide slat shutter doors Kyrbo and a flaming nightmare. When I took over Toray’s fleet I phased them out as soon as possible and replaced them with bi-fold barn doors. One door got jammed and it took a day to get at the goods :smiling_imp:

Like the crack about the snow curtains, all I’ve ever used although my chains did many miles without once touching the surface.

Nice series of pictures Vast, guess you like the double bottoms eh?

Vast is at this moment cruising at 35000 ft. on his way back to Calgary where his truck will be ready & waiting…Hopefully!
I used to use Pops snow chains that were in three pieces to get me up the Blanc. I used the full doubles only once & only on one side with a Swiss truck. I was empty in a blizzard going up Gran St Bernard ( Swiss side ) & doing well when a Dutch guy coming down shouted out of his window that the cops were round the corner & were nicking drivers without chains. I pulled over onto this frozen upward slope parking place. It was a big old hotel. But a few yards from my N/S wheel was a massive St Bernard dog ,complete with kennel & chain. It had a bark like a lion. And barked until I left.It took at least an hour to get one chain on because I could only roll back. I got going for five minutes until I reached my first tunnel I then I had to stop to take it off again. You get nicked for using chains in a tunnel. After that it was always curtains…

Nice pics. Winters almost finnished, going to be in the 50’s this week . Time to stash the chains and check the A/C still works. :sunglasses:

Not a lover of those kind of motors myself, but good interesting pics.

Good photos

Harry is correct about the Wal mart trailers, i drive for them and we drop
them at the store docks still sealed then the unloading crew opens them
at the appointed hour to unload. Sometimes stuff falls back inside onto
the door but they manage to get it open.

Does that make me a “trolly driver”

Well, it feels good to have it out in the open

Charles

remy I should get out more…
