You’ll be lucky to get private use on a van most insurance co’s don’t do it.I had my old ■■■■■■ van insured with Autonet had no bother in the 3 years I was with them and they were cheap enough haven’t had a van for a while so dunno if they’re still alright

Alot now won’t also transfer nc’s built up on a van and transfer to a car policy.

Yep, I had no end of problems getting my LDV insured privately but Autonet sorted it, and still do. 
Direct Line (who I have my car with) were not interested and NFU wanted nearly £600!

Cheapest for me was Adrian flux by a country mile
Peter Best might be worth a sniff - not the same thing, granted, but they insured an old TX2 London cab for me a couple of years ago when hardly anyone else would touch it. (pretty cheap, too). Adrian Flux and NFU were willing also, but way more expensive.
Adrian Flux allowed me to use my car’s no claims bonus on my Transit Van (Private use)… said i couldn’t transfer it back to a car…unless it was with them 
My mate was struggling the other way
Loads offered him quotes until was told was for hire and reward and euro cover
He’s paying 2800 year any driver over 25 with no claims
Try Tesco,insured my little Pug van, social, domestic & pleasure plus commuting fully comp £220 pa but it takes a bit of explaining to key board jockey at the end of the phone its not being used for hire & reward!

last year with HIC it was just under £200-this year they wanted over £500!!!
You could try a Co called Anthony Evans. They advertise in the ACU handbook. My Sprinter costs £230 pa as I put a mattress in the back when I go racing it is classed as a motorhome 5k annual mileage limit though.
