just reading about a vacancy for a class 1 job, annoyed me a little bit because it said ‘‘you don’t need experience, just a class 1 licence’’,maybe i’m reading it wrong but still annoying

How did you get your 1st job, I got mine no experience BUT I went out with a experienced driver for 2 weeks and got sent on all the easy collections for a number of weeks until they felt I could cope with harder ones.

This was exactly the same for me.
Maybe they are one of these rare companies that are actually willing to train new drivers so are more concerned about your attitude towards learning than experience?

I understand where you are coming from, it would sound better if they said, we will send you out with an experienced driver for two weeks before unleashing you on the public on your own, but it’s a bit long winded.
The thing is, many companies advertise for drivers with the bits on the end Must have experience..must have recent experience, must have this and that, so i applaud these companies that say
No experience needed, just a licence and relevant cards, digi, tacho etc…at least it gives newbies
a chance.
Personally I think it all goes on the candidate having the right attitude. My ex boss would always take note of someone who knocks on the door over another who just emails a cv.
We had a driver start with us at my old place a couple of years ago. Had his class 1 from when he was in the army but no experience. The boss took him on, we were all working flat out and no class 1s spare to show him the ropes so he got sent out in a ridgid for a few shifts with one of our van drivers.
He had the right attitude though and stuck with it and within a few weeks he was out on his own in an artic. When I left a while back he was doing well and also felt a sense of loyalty to my boss because he gave him a chance, when nobody else would.
In this kind of scinario with the right attitude and temperment I guess it works for everyone, but as we all know it often doesnt.
Judging by what’s out there now driving there was no 2 week induction know alls but really know nothing

i’m not talking about the experience part,i understand that,it’s the part where it say’s ‘‘just a class 1 licence’’ as though it’s nothing, loads of driver’s on here over the years have sweated blood to get their licence, paying through the nose for it, getting into debt, stressing out because they failed the first attempt, paying more money for the second attempt, etc so it’s not ‘‘just a class 1 licence’’

I think you are reading too much into this. It’s not belittling a Class 1 licence, just saying that they will take on a driver without the usual “two years’ experience” thing.

yeah, maybe your right, enough on the subject methinks
Got my first driving job by lying through my teeth,… flatbed 7.5 tonner, "can you rope and sheet son? " Of course says I… first load … I drove through the yard gates doing an impression of the Cutty Sark under full sail… Give old man Phil Gains his due he didn’t sack me on the spot but spent a couple hours in the yard showing me how to sheet and tie dollies.

Probably because you had the balls to do it and could see potential
