How the hell you are a moderator on here and get away with the crap you spout when good and more established posters have been banned is beyond me :unamused: :unamused: (was going to post further but it would have been removed for personal attack)

Beggars belief eh ? But i don’t bore everyone to death with posts about low wage jobs like a stuck record.

Calm down children…(drivers ā– ā– ?)

just saw an advert for class 1 drivers for a waste recycling company,it says you must have experience [obviously]but then it says you must have excellent communication skills ,a good knowledge of the uk and Europe, physically fit and a can do attitude, and for all this they pay £397 per week plus revenue bonus, hourly rate is £7.55,and £22 night out money, dont know about anyone else but I reckon that is rubbish for what they want from a prospective employee

Do ya know what, all these type posts bore the [zb] out of me. And i’m sure they bore the [zb] out of lots of others too. They’re just so [zb] repetitive. But here’s what…keep your own job. Don’t work for that crap pay. And if the pay is so crap and you know the margins are so great then go get your own truck, get the work and pay someone better than what they’re offering. Or just [zb] moan about something that [zb] all to do with you.

oh dear, have I upset you in some way, shame, also I am not actually looking for a job,and if you don’t like the post don’t reply simple, somebody on here recently said one or two moderators are getting too big for their boots on this site,i tend to agree

Sometimes when I read some of these posts on this site and how they are being handled by some moderators it seems to me the site has been established not for drivers but for transport companies owners, transport managers and it is here so drivers can be put in their place if they start expecting too much from this industry.
Minimum wage and 80 hrs per is what you drivers should be expecting, if not happy look for other job.

Good on ya kid, 18 months ago you where asking how to insert a digi card in your new chosen career. Now you’ve uncovered a plot to keep the working trucker down.

Exactly the sort of fast-learning go-getter the industry needs.

Daft thing here is - we’d ā€œnot like itā€ if someone bragged about how MUCH they were getting, rather than how little.

If enough people trumpeted the top dollar employers, then the discontent among low paying yard’s drivers would spread, and drivers would start holding out for the better paid work/clients only.

The only way a low wage is going to rise is if EVERYONE refuses to do the job.
This can either happen because there are no actual drivers left looking for jobs, apart from the hopeless applicants.
It can also happen because it might become more lucractive to sit out and wait for something better to come along. :bulb:

this has actually been one of the funniest threads i have read on here for a good while.

and i can see both sides - drivers highlighting crap wages (as we ALL know the job should pay more than what the hourly rate on offer is), but think that the mods should also be allowed to post opinion without the whole ā€˜youre a mod so …’.

mind you my 1st job interview outside of working as an OD in late 1998 i was offered the mega wages of £3.62 an hour.

makes my £3.36 for 40 hours then £4.44 o/t and Sats and £5.92 sun and bank hols back in 1993 look really well paid!

potentially however i was also informed that i need not worry as every 4th week i coudl do nights and earn £5 per hour which made the money up to a great wage! :open_mouth:

On the face of it the pay doesn’t look very good, but without knowing what the bonus is worth I don’t see how you can say it’s a bad wage.

Sorry late to the party as usual, but that’s exactly what my 1st thought was

Though I’m a bit confused, as to how you have a weekly rate, and an hourly rate off pay. Surely the systems are contradictory. Are they saying that you’ll get 52 and half hrs every week, if so does this mean that if you exceed that then you’d earn Ā£7.55 hr for every hour over. Or that once you have reached that quantity off hours you are finished for the week. This could easily be achieved in 4 days.

As for the weekly rate + revenue bonus, I was on a weekly rate job + %(revenue bonus), 6 yrs ago, and it was for the most part, (til the recession hit) a good earner.

you are quite right tachograph,i have no idea what the bonus is as it never said,i suppose a driver would have to phone up to find out, what got me was in this day and age they are still offering a low hourly rate for an experienced driver but I suppose if you put that plus the bonus and the night out it could be a good wage,i was a bit of a ā– ā– ā– ā–  because I did not look at the bigger picture, still I live and learn

I don’t think you were being a ā€œā– ā– ā– ā– ā€, but hourly pay and or the flat hourly rate aren’t always what they appear to be. There are other ways to calculate pay eg revenue bonus, that can actually enhance what you take home by a considerable amount, at the end off the day its what goes in the bank account not how its calculated that matters

Though I’m still confused by the weekly rate, and an hourly rate being advertised together

The more complicated a pay structure looks - the less cushy it becomes.

Geez, this site is vicious  ! Mike C to be fair to the original poster you did remind him you’re a poster and reader too. His post hasn’t broken any rules am sure. What you say is just in your own opinion.

I use another quite well known forum for a different form of transport: it’s so common to have posts about bad pay and conditions they have a dedicated section for it ā€œterms of endearmentā€. it’s accepted it’s a part of discussion of the industry and is doing well to highlight discussions the unions are having about the issue.
