i was told i could go from scart to s-video into laptop and get picture from digi box but i’m struggling to work it out

On all the laptops I’ve owned the S-Video was out only, for connecting to a TV or a projector for presentations etc. I think you would need some kind of video capture card to be able to feed the signal into the laptop.

I doubt you can do it directly without any extra hardware - most laptops don’t have anything like an s-video input.
IMHO, you’d be best off getting a USB DVB tuner and using that (as long as your laptop has USB 2.0 ports).
