Probably this has been asked before but can I use the laptop, not within swept area of screen, as a gps while driving with autoroute or other programme?

Would you need to see the laptop or would it just be for listening to voice commands ?

As a laptop is not a dedicated GPS unit there’s every chance that you’ll get pulled if you can view the screen from the drivers position.
ROG and Tachograph, thanks;
definitely would see it from drivers position ands hear voice prompts, is there a screen size limitation to be a dedicated gps? or just the fact that it’s a laptop?
I just find it easier to see on laptop than TomTom and use it as the hands free for the phone etc. Yes it does have internet dongle for web but can be pulled out when driving and just leave GPS usb aerial.
(I’m not not trying to find a way to watch movies on the M5)
Does GPS need to be seen or just heard ?
Normally I would see the screen but does it work if the laptop is only giving voice commands and working as hands free for phone?

I have not used a GPS but have been in vehicles where it is used and as far as I could tell the driver really only needed to hear the commands - if this is all you need to do then using a laptop to do this and placing that laptop in a position where it cannot be seen seems to fit all the legal requirements or have I missed something ■■?

I don’t think it’s a question of screen size, more the fact that laptops can be used for watching videos ec’t.
I’m afraid it’s a case of us all being penalised because of the idiots who do watch video’s ec’t whilst driving

As far as I know you can still use it for sound and hands free as long as the screen can’t be watched from the drivers position, so I guess the hands free is still good and the GPS may still have some advantage even without the screen … well may be worth trying anyway.
hi mate i would not use one other wise you mite be the one the plod find with there new truck
