USB charging confusion

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

In my unit which is a Scania I will be looking to charge, my phone, tablet and sat nav as well as having LED backboard lights.

What is the best way to set this up? I’ve used the search bar and I’m getting numerous figures fired at me like 300W converter, 12-24V etc and this means nothing to me and I’m not wanting to cause any damage.

So what should I be looking to buy if I’m wanting to charge my phone/tablet & Sat Nav and have a LED backboard?

Tablet and phone could alternatively be charged.

Any help with what I’d need?

Cheers.

edit - more simple question possibly… in the new gens scans is there numerous USB connection points around the cab to save you using these adapters?

But I’m still guessing the LED lights would need something extra to work.

My satnav lead is just a regular USB and it came with a 12v adapter socket with a single USB port on it. I simply swapped this out for one with 2 on so I can charge my phone at the same time. If you have a permanent live socket somewhere which is highly likely you could then charge both your phone and tablet even with the engine off.

Something like this.

Thanks for the direct link.

So this piece of apparatus does both your sat-nav and then leave another free USB port for your tablet/phone.

Do you know how LED lights get rigged up?

Just be aware sometimes these don’t cope with 24 volts, so check that one you buy does, or only ever put it into a 12v socket.

Is there separate 24 and 12v sockets in the unit?

No idea if you are in a new Scania, pretty sure the R has one 12v but more 24v

I’ve got a new gen S500 and it’s swimming in sockets. The more basic versions have less but still enough and as I used to have a basic (old gen) unit I’m still kitted as for it if you get me.

I’ve got a triple adapter for the 12v socket which powers the satnav and will charge two devices aswell. It sits in the permanent live 12v socket on the passenger side of the dash (check as mine has a 24v socket right next to it for Belgian Road toll box).

Light board… therell be at least one socket somewhere in the bunk area. It might be hidden in a shelf or something. Use that for light board. Personally I’m not a fan of them, they glare the windscreen too much for me, but others have them so it must be possible.

Poverty spec Scanias don’t always have a socket in the bunk area, and the only 12v cigarette socket may only be the one down the side of the dashboard on the passenger side, there’ll be a 24v cigarette socket near the centre console or down by your left knee with a couple of mixed hella sockets with these. So choose wisely which socket you plug into. If in doubt buy yourself an LED cigarette socket volt meter for under a fiver like this ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-24V-LED- … Sw5PJbD8E1
This will save you a whole bunch of pain if you burn out any of your electric toys
If you’ve a poverty spec truck I suspect that you will have to ditch the LED light board in favour of the other things

I bought this one 3 years ago, has 4 USB sockets and 3 12v cigar lighter sockets. It can be plugged into 12v or 24v socket in the truck (or boat in my case) and gives 12v output on the 3 cigar lighter sockets.

I cannot help with the LED lights, not sure what voltage they are.

With 7 outlets it is reassuring to see that has a cutout at 120W, and a thermal cutout. Check makers book or any marking on vehicle socket to ensure 120W (10Amp) wont be overloading the vehicle circuit and blowing a fuse.

Yes mate I did, they got me set up in Scotland which is a 20 minute drive opposed to being based in Galway for 2 weeks at a time. Sweetened the deal a little for me and made it easier to scratch the itch.

Other brands are available but -I have had one of these for 3 years now and no issues . One tip for you make sure the charger lead is working before you blame the plug - I found out the hard way .
