Urgent lift needed!

Didnt damage anything or cause the fault…the clutch release bearing went…story goes like this…I don’t do nights out and my normal general haulage work never takes me any further than London but the boss phoned me last night (Monday)to ask if I’d do a quick trip to Salisbury …2 drops then a twickenham pick up then home not a problem so in order to be back I set off at 4.30am to beat traffic got to first drop and the bearing went(8am)…rung up straight away as knew what problem was 10am scania turn up 12 the wrecker turns up…eventually make to scania at nursling soton 2.30pm via lambert bros to get rid of rest of drops…at the point of arriving at scania I find out that scania cannot do the repairs at very best tommorow afternoon/night but more likely to be after weekend due to lack if staff …I then ring in and inform manager of this who says "we can’t find a unit/rigid cheap enough for us to hire so you’ll have to stay with it " I then inform him I have no money/food/sleeping gear and am miles from anywhere to which point his answer was the bloke who’s unit it normally is has left his stuff in it you can use that…ok till I find it’s in a ■■■■ state covered in ominous stains …at this point I rung back and politely told him to shove his Job to which he said …what about MY lorry when I said I couldnt care less he hung up lol

Tossers, shows how much they think of their staff if they won’t stand for about £30 of fares to get you home.

Go on Adam name and shame, is it Task Force? I’m going to Truck East in the morning to collect mine I could torch a few trailers for you :smiling_imp:

Well said mate I would of told him the same

same kinda thing happened to me, cant wait till its finished with in court so i can put up everythin about said firm and the way your treated and things expected of you

Got pulled years ago at m4/ m5 interchange, prohibition on wagon for leaking load sensing valve, company we were sub contracting for sent a driver and a car down to pick us up (was double manned using an employee of the furniture manufacturer we were hauling for), boss wanted me to stay with it over weekend and bring it back, it was a dodge day cab, dont think so, came home, he arranged a load to the south west for the Monday the following week with another of our trucks, that made it to Preston then broke down, had to thumb it to Bristol from then on.

bald bloke:
Bleeding hell what kind of employer are they ?

Exactly my thoughts - and I haven’t read any further yet.

Edit: having now read the rest of the thread; yes employer well out of order.
I might (though unlikely - but not everyone is as busy as I am) have stayed with it if they arranged for some cash/credit for personal n/o gear, food, accommodation, etc.

  • of course paid me for the days (10 hrs min.) There again to go out in a truck without cash or recourse to it is a little fool hardy. In this business there is never any guarantee you will be home.

However: Its clutch release bearing yes? So assume there is drive on the clutch but fails to release? (manual box?). In which case it would have been back in the yard (driven) by lunch time.

Lads have fetched 'em back (loaded) from over the water on & off ferries in the past sans clutch, but i guess that was in the days of truck drivers rather than steering wheel attendants.

Hope you made new employer aware of the situation that it was touch n go whether you’d make it home and/or could possibly be too tired to drive tomorrow. Hope it pans out ok.

Blimey, and I thought I was being Harsh!!!

Am I the only one who thinks this guy should be banned from posting useless crap?

An improvement from the usual unintelligible postings. But nevertheless it’s crap.

The OP is obviously stuck for obvious options as I am sure they would not post on here otherwise.

Currently been dumped in Southampton by my present employer due to a truck breakdown and at the moment it’s looking like It will be next week before truck is repaired …is there anyone in the area that could give me a lift to or near to London or home counties area■■?

Mobile number is 07827 965656

Cheers !!!

Not sure if I’m coming home tonight but I can help with a lift to dumnow if your proper stuck, if I do get back it will be late I reckon. There’s plenty of work round this way you’ll find something no problem.

Name and Shame the company so other Steering Wheel Attendants(love that)can keep clear of them

Honestly would’nt bother me hitching home. Help my boss out he helps me out.

Depends though if you work for a small family firm or dhl etc.

Il name and shame them.

Bit harsh mate, if I knowingly drive a wagon with a defect, I am out the door, no excuses. Some companies don’t tolerate it, the old days were the old days but it’s all health and safety nowadays as I am sure you only know too well.

There’s plenty of work round this way you’ll find something no problem.

Not Class 1, Ive not found it, thats why ive had to take a multi drop job in Bishops Stortford!!
Im near Braintree, point me in the direction of a decent job!

I’ll second that, every topic you go on up pops immigrant spouting ■■■■ either useless or unrelated to the topic being discussed.

In my opinion either he has some sort of attention seeking disorder, or he has nowhere else to post as Mumsnet probably binned him.

Thanks boys, i got a telling off for my comment but i admit it was a bit over the top!! Been in this position, stranded and no one seems to care.

Years ago, prior to starting work ( i was on a trunk to Felixstowe with a loaded sugar tank, then reload back at tate and lyle silvertown ) anyway, my eyes were tired, and consequently i developed conjunctivitus during the journey, i did manage to get to felixstowe and tip, but then my eyes closed, and i could hardly see a thing.
I telephoned the boss and told him that it was dangerous to proceed, and that i couldnt get the truck back, to which he replied, “Well your sacked then”
When i asked him how i would get home, he told me " Thats your problem "
I did manage to scrounge a lift to the Blackwall, and eventually got home a about 1am…next day he phoned to ask where the keys were…to which i replied " Thats your problem"…then hung up.
