I have broken down the fitter wants to recover me 6 miles away my 15 spread finishes in 18 minutes I am currently stopped in a area where parked vehicles are clamped.I know I can exceed 15 as long as I do printout and note reson but how long over can I go as it seems like it may be another 30 mins plus before I can move. Anyone o. With the correct knowledge please let me know ASAP
chill oot man,do a printout,write you’re broken down,what can they do?,shoot you? no!
If your being recovered, halfshaft or prop off so no tacho
As said mate, don’t worry. Two printouts explaining the problem, 1 for you, hand the other in to office. Nothing to worry about.
I broke down a few years ago on the hill in Aberystwyth, at the time I was on 14.5 hours and had just enough time to get to Aberaeron (where I was supposed to join a colleague and have a jar or two). fitter turned up 2 hours later and spent an hour fixing the problem (gear cables on a Volvo).
When he had finished I was on a 18hour shift. drove to the lorry park in Aberystwyth 5 minutes away and wrote the reason on tacho. then had 9 off and carried on. No problems when I had a spot check a week later. VOSA guy agreed I coudnt have done anything else.

As the situation seems to be out of your control I would say you have as long as it takes, I don’t see what other reasonable options you have really.
As has already been said take two printouts, one to hand in when your card is downloaded and one to keep with you for ever and a day
Thanks guys now parked up in recovery firms yard .Good start to the weekend eh!
Good luck dude
In future, just pull the card.

That’s just asking for trouble though, innit?
When the VOSA download the tacho head and find there’s mileage that’s not accounted for.
Why not just do a printout, explain the situation on the back.
You won’t get done for something that’s out of your control, but you will for trying to fiddle it.
for future reference, put the fitters workshop card in. vosa will know when, and who recovered the vehicle.

I may be wrong but as far as I’m aware most fitters don’t have a workshop card, and the recovery guys won’t carry it on them, it’s used for altering things on the Tacho and used by workshops that do their own maintenance, Tacho calibrations and inspections.

You could have removed your card and put it into ‘out of scope’…the vehicle is then in control/posession of an organisation outside of the company…When you reinsert your card, the vehicle automatically terminates the ‘out of scope’ and the vehicle is now back in your/your emplyer’s control

You may, if they are not happy with an explanation you have given, doing a print out doesn’t exempt you from getting done.
An infringment is an infringment.

that’s the most sensible option.

It doesn’t matter who’s in control of the vehicle the card is to record the drivers activities, and legally the driver is still working whilst being recovered so if he wants to stay legal the time should be recorded either on the driver card or manually on a printout, so there’s not much point in taking the card out if he wants to stay legal.

Also, am i right in thinking while the company card is locked in the vehicle is still under control of the company essentially? Running out of scope only applies to activities out of scope, ie. own account within a 50 mile radius or some other exception to the rules.
