hi can anyone suggest anywhere to soucre a starter motor for a 1987 12700cc ERF it is for a carnival club which has converted a old tractor unit into a cart and we are in desperate need to source a starter motor to be able to compete in tonight (saturday) Glastonbury carnival bit of a long shot but must be worth a try as ares packed up tonight and we had to be bump started to get going thanks in advance
Unfortunately you have not given enough information for anyone to be able to help you and what you have given is incorrect.
Has this been diagnosed as definitely the starter motor u/s or does the engine just not start?
There were two possible types of engine of approximately 12 litres capacity fitted to ERFs of that era- ■■■■■■■ and Rolls Royce neither was 12.7 litres. My money would be on the Rolls Royce which is 12.17 litres. There are then three possible manufacturers of the starter motor: CAV, Delco or Butec.
So have a trawl of t’internet for Auto electrical in Bristol and ring around asking. In the meantime note which side of the engine it is fitted, exactly which engine it is Rolls 220 265 290 or ■■■■■■■ 220 (12.2 litre) 250 (14 litre) and remove it from the vehicle you may then find a part number on a label which will mean something concrete to the electrician.
