Here’s the statement claiming responsibility, whether it has any truth in it who know’s.
kitkat:
Surely they would be that much greater a martyr if they attacked a military base as opposed to innocent men, women & children just going about their daily business.
And military personnel aren’t innocent people going about their daily buisness

Well let me tell you why,These so called coward’s want maximum coverage via tv,radio and newspaper’s,and where is better to hit than the heart off the biggest city in England. We have had two scare’s up here in Scotland,1 in Glasgow,( at a hospital),the 2nd was in Princes street.
NSH.Just to make you aware,at a military sentry post the solider’s have gun’s with live bullet’s( ie one’s that kill you). That is why these cowards won’t hit a military establishment, because they the soliders fight back. The public can’t.
Precisley my point !
I wasn’t trying to infer the military were guilty of anything (although there are plenty of Arabic people who think they are)
but they are paid to take the risk by the very nature of the job
It does puzzle me tho if they are going to die anyway (suicide bombers) surely there is greater cudos in attacking the “might” of the western military than civilian target.
I do understand your point about publicity but they would get a much pubcity if they attackedvsay Lakenheath or Boscombe Down
Sorry NSH m8,they will get more publicity if they hit a major city like they have done in London.Personnelly if it was down to me i would not show any coverage on tv or show any picture’s in the newspaper’s.Because that is exactly what they want. But the public whould have an outcry if it was not shown, they would think that the goverment does not care about it’s people. The less you show the terrorist’s result’s the less they are in the public eye and they don’t like that.
I want to second (or is that third or fourth?) what has been said about the emergency services. They handled everything in a cool, calm & professional manner, just like they are trained to do. When you see pictures on the news about places being bombed etc, all to often you can see the waling masss of people milling around, whilst the emergency services & police just stand about not knowing really what to do. Remember the Beslan school siege, that was the most shocking lack of discipline ever…the locals just took it upon themselves to go wandering in & around the area whilst the armed forces dithered about looking totally inept.
If our boys had had a hand in that, Im sure they would have got out everyone out alive…just look at what they did at the Iranian Embassy-true professionalism.
Yesterday at about 11 am, we all received text messages on our cab phones…“London City transport disabled…all employees working/driving within the M25, please make your way home immediatley”. I was ok though, I was tipping in Willenhall!
I had a bit of an add conversation with the flt driver there though…
Flt Driver:- " I bet it was the Italians who bombed London because they’re hacked off they didnt get the Olympics"
Me:- " Ummm…They werent in the running for the Olympics"
Flt Driver:- Yes they were, they wanted to hold it in Madrid"
Me:- “But Madrid is in Spain”
Flt:- “Oh, is it?”

I heard 2 Imams (that’s mosque leaders to you and me) who stated point blank that these bombers are going to be VERY disappointed when they don’t get the the muslim heaven…
I must say that the emergency services, and Londoners in general have made me very proud indeed of the whole nation. Well done.
On another note - the Met Police have said that apart from the crime scenes themselves, London will be back to normal around monday. Keep an ear to the news before taking runs that way.
This action just proves hopw STUPID these Islamic Militants are,…
The Brits will not be intimidated by this cowards that strike in the night and shoulder to shoulder Brits and Americans will destroy them…
Islam has not experienced yet the "FULL RATH "of Brittian and America.
“Take ME George, I can still aim and squeeze”
I dont care who did it i hope they died a very painful and long death, no virgins for them where they are going, life will be back to normal for the majority of us on Mon.
My thoughts and prayers are with the survivors and the families of those who died However, on another point I feel that this act will cause a backlash against innocent Muslims living peacefully in this country and who are going about their lawful business. Also, I feel that the membership of such organisations as the British National Party (BNP) and the National Front will swell as people feel that they have to try to rid the country of foreigners.
Do not agree, are you going to have a go at muslims, and how would you know who was a muslim some are white english who have had a change of faith, anyway there were probably innocent muslims caught up in it, i should imagine that most are as appalled as we are, back to the original point, as far as i know penfold is a muslim and as far as you know i may be one, and i have not heard the police say a muslim did it.
About time we all started to respect each other a bit more,

Well said Dafman
and just because some terrorists are muslims does not mean that all muslims are terrorists

As someone who’s wife was too darned close to the action for comfort, I felt sheer relief at hearing she was ok.
Then I started thinking of the bereaved … I feel so sad for them. Words cannot express my feelings.
BUT, like others, I have nothing but admiration for our brilliant emergency services … they are the cream!!! To have to deal with the aftermath of these incidents takes some balls!
I also listened to Radio5 and heard Ken Livingstone read a statement before leaving Singapore. As I listened to him, I thought he had got it exactly right and I actually thought he had the sound of a Winston Churchill about him. Then I heard his statement during the press conference today. I nearly applauded the man as once again, he got it right… no mealy mouthed words like the clown that runs this country.
For 5 years the Luftwaffe couldn’t bow Londoners… then we had the IRA for nearly 30 years. If they couldn’t suceed then these COWARDS won’t suceed.
Londoners and the emergency services showed what they are made off and that is typical of this great country as a whole and I include all faiths and races in that!!!
Brits will never bow to the enemy
RULE BRITANNIA

Here Here Bear noone has the power to break the spirit if the Great British public.
People may fear going to London in the next few weeks but that is the wrong attitude, if you are planning to go then go dont let these people have their way.
A horrible coincidence that words still remaining from an advertisement on the bus, reads:-
‘OUTRIGHT TERROR…
BOLD AND BRILLIANT’
Apart from his nasal speak, I actually thought Ken Livingstone made a brilliant speach too. I also had to give Charles Clarke and Tony Blur some respect for their speeches.
Im not sure how the BNP and National Front are going to make things better. Why would anyone want to join a terrorist organisation?

Did you mean to say democratically elected parties who voice the right to freedom of speech in this country??.
Jammy, it’s easy to make bold statements about continuing to travel on the tube from Newark, for those of us Londonners who have no choice but to use it most days the thought is a much more apprehensive one. In the short term this is academic, the Piccadily is still blocked by a train and two dozen bodies.
As for the democratically elected BNP, Germany’s National Socialists were initially democratically elected by a panicked people. The BNP is racist and facist and can play no constructive part in a multi-ethnic society.
so a free and democratic society for everyone as long as they don’t support the BNP?
very democratic.
