Were you invited into the meeting ? How can you say that for sure ?

How can you say that for sure ?

usually defined as rationalisation/ integration.
I would have thought that it was almost certain that some depots will close and some drivers will be “surplus” to requirements.
But, hey ho, as the Pythons said …always look on the bright side of life!

Cos that’s what always happens! UPS, as in virtually all of these deals , are buying the work and as far as possible the work will be integrated into their organisation. TNT Express has been losing millions. Reduce the overheads by losing staff and shutting depots etc and it becomes a viable addition to UPS. I don’t need to be in any meeting to work that out and I wouldn’t believe too much of the bull you might hear at these get togethers. Looks like time to renew an old relationship!

You are all probably right,i suppose we will all have to wait .
This will be the second time for me where a takeover has taken place before it was Securicor omega Logistics were taken over by DHL. My job there was fine until low cost carriers took over most of the European Linehaul operations .Then most of us had to adapt in doing another job within the company .

FTFY.

The reports state no job losses but both UPS & TNT use sub contractors and outside service providers, it will be these that wont get their contracts re-newed and as such technically aren’t employed by the company so wont count under the job loss figures. UPS also has a policy of not re-employing ex employees and the TNT depot round the corner from us have at least 7 drivers who left us when the work got to much, not sure how that will work.

Ups tend to use German subbies running swap bodies from London to europe. Don’t think wigglesworth, Chris Riches and the like will be doing it much longer. Also think your ex ups employees will be ok. Maritime had to re employ 2 drivers they sacked, when they took over dhl

Best was they all left UPS because they wanted an easier life at TNT. Oh well

It’s just wait and see time now, I worked as a subby for TNT for six years, I had a tractor and vans in with them on both UK and International, they were always fair with me and they pay fast, invoice by Tuesday and the money was in the bank the following Thursday, not bad for a big company. You know that some major restructuring and integration will be taking place though. TNT could not have carried on in their present state, it was clear that investment was needed from outside. Where both UPS and TNT have depot’s in the same town though you can see some changes coming.

I used the old thread to post the takeover news
