I have just acquired a 3 axle rigid, which is a stretched unit.
The front axle is plated at 7.1 tonnes. How can this be uprated to say 8 t? Would fitting 315 tyres be enough?
Its a 2003 Magnum.

What is entered in the column for design front axle weight on the Ministry plate and on the manufacturer’s plate? this may well give a clue about what is possible without surgery.
The easy way to do this is to seek the advice of SV Tech at leyland they will tell you all you need to know , I’ve just put some 8 tonne twin leaf springs on a Daf95 they were £170 each from Owens ,i could of put 9 tonne 3leaves but didn’t.it has super singles already ,I am hoping the axle won’t exceed 7 tonne when I drop the crane on ,but if it does then its ready.the local truckparts co want £400 ish each spring so it pays to shop around.
Useful info, thanks Dan.
The Design weights column is blank, which is why I’m worrying a bit that it may not be as simple as just tyres. Having said that, a few hundred quid for springs isn’t the end of the world.
If the design weight column is blank it means that the axle is already plated at its design weight. You will need to speak to a specialist to see how you can uprate.
