May 11, 2011 - Interministerial Committee for Road Safety
On this day of launching the World Decade for Action for Road Safety (2011 - 2020) by the UN and the WHO decision to which France has contributed significantly, Prime Minister Francois Fillon, has chaired the fourth Interministerial Committee on Road Safety Board (IRB) of the mandate.

Of the 103 measures decided by the IRB since 2008, 101 were implemented.

Without waiting for the implementation of these measures, the Prime Minister asked the Minister of the Interior, Overseas, local authorities and immigration to implement tighter controls on the roads, and any especially during the long weekends of June.

1-- Discourage speeding

5 - Provide more space for citizens in road safety policy

I think the scariest thing of that document is the decision to make more training compulsory if you have passed a test but haven’t ridden a bike for 5 years. An idea that will probably follow us here.

There will also be lots of riots caused when Gerry Gendarme tries to take the Tom Tom out of a lorry :unamused:

Utter waste of time - and typical of French authorities’ attitude, tackling the problem from the wrong end. 8 points instead of 6 for driving over the limit is a joke, and the reason why so many people here still have a bottle of wine at midi (or half a dozen Pastis) before getting back in their cars/trucks. People feel they have nothing to lose by drink driving and until that changes we’ll still have to keep making allowances for other drivers’ foolishness.
