Hi guys
Thought I’d post a quick update about my situation.
I passed my class 2 in 2010 and class 1 last September.
I was lucky enough to get a start on class 2 work quite quickly after passing my test. Unfortunately due to a situation I was put in with this company involving running illegally, I left immediately, needing a job quickly I applied and got a job as a meter reader for Severn Trent.
I stayed there until 2 weeks ago, pretty much hating every minute of it and wanting to get back into driving.
Applying for work was a nightmare as (in the eyes of agencies and companies) I had no experience within the last 2 years
Monday this week, I rang a transport company 1 mile away from my front door and to my surprise, I was asked to go down for a chat. First thing I was met with was, “Our insurance covers 25s and over”.
■■■■■■■■!!! Was the first thing that went through my mind. Anyway I got a phone call on the night from the boss, he’d rang the insurance up and they had agreed to add me onto the policy if he paid an extra £80 a month!
The outcome of this was that he agreed to pay this himself and my first day was on Wednesday
The work is short and long distance class 2 work with nights out, good pay and a bloody good boss! He said once I hit 25 in Dcember, he’ll put me on the artics Can’t ask fairer than that!
Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to show that, no matter how many rejections you get as a new driver, you situation can change bloody fast! All it took was one speculative phone call and I’ve got my chance
So keep sending out those applications and phoning round, you’ll get your chance eventually!
Cheers
Will
