Can you believe this ?

Strangely enough “It remained open in the eastbound direction, which is not controlled by tolls.”

Last man out, turn off the lights…Can`t be long now
Tightarseness of the highest degree, just lift the barriers and use it for free if they can’t staff it
If you´re not paying to play I´m taking me ball home.
So, another 8,000 vehicles will have to go tother way? That
ll be safer, will it? Itll certainly risk delays and increased fuel use by queuing vehicles I
d think. Unless of course the other bridge calls in more staff…
What`s the date? Nope, not April !st.
Most of them will be without a job come the end of the year, cant blame them for developing chronic ciderritis especially during the current nice weather.
This is indeed a quandry.
Question that i can’t make me mind up on:- i wonder if they get full sick pay
…just wonderin like
Shut to protect the safety of drivers, we seem to cope with every other bridge in the country.

Furst thing I thought was that the safety of drivers heading the other way (toll free) clearly doesn’t matter as that’s still open…
i wonder if anyone could get an answer to the obvious question of.in what way does leaving the barriers up endanger the safety of drivers without only using the evasive answer of.h&s

The local paper asked this. The reply was they thought drivers would speed through the open barriers and cause accidents.
In other words they couldn’t bare not raking in an extortionate amount of money.
A few weeks back, the payment system went down on the same bridge… again rather than opening the barriers they closed the whole bridge.
The difference here is the staff were there, so there is absolutely no reason why the barriers couldn’t have been manually controlled for each vehicle.
This is purely down to money, to say otherwise is Just farcical
Do you really think drivers could be trusted to drive sensibly through a series of narrow lanes, if there aren’t barriers to force them to come to a complete stop?
I’d give it half an hour before someone tries going through at 80 mph and demolishes a toll booth.

5 Years ago I would have challenged that, unfortunately now, I have to agree with you.

When Dartford had toll booths, and between 1000-0600 they weren’t manned, as it was free, barriers were on automatic, pull up to barrier and it opened. That seemed to work. Me thinks there’s a conspiracy at work regarding the M4.
